Good Car - 2004 Toyota Prius
By JRA - January 18 - 2:00 amI have not reached the MPG rating by Toyota yet. It may be the cold weather or break in period. The best I have done is 50 mpg on highway and city.

WHERES THE MILEAGE? - 2004 Toyota Prius
By steves - January 13 - 10:00 amI purchased a 2004 Prius in January. As of 3000 miles, am averaging 34 MPG. I had the vehicle checked today by a local Toyota dealer, but their tests showed nothing wrong. I have asked several other Prius owners about their mileage; none have had less than 45, most well over! I dont expect (or believe) the claims of 51/60 MPG, I expect something relative, and 34 is not acceptable. The dealer suggested having Toyota factory technicians test the vehicle. Whatever course of action they prefer is fine with me, Id simply like a rapid and comprehensive flow of communication, but Toyota has been completely non-responsive.

No 60 mpg; has some bugs, but good car - 2004 Toyota Prius
By eyeonthescreen - January 9 - 2:50 pmOur Prius averages 44 mpg, not the 51-60 EPA mpg in the ads. It has been in the shop three times now on recalls. The GPS-controls and display software needs some upgrades to be competitive with other makes. BUT, despite these short comings, my next new car will likely be a Prius. It is a work horse, I can pile more stuff in it than in my Avalon, which is a much bigger car on the outside. Interior head and leg room is also better than my Avalon. Prius style is true 21st century; not some makeover of a 20th century design. It has great voice interaction capability and blue tooth connectivity. And despite being hard to navigate around, the GPS does an excellent tracking job.

2004 Prius after 2000 miles - 2004 Toyota Prius
By MFritz2004 - October 19 - 2:00 amWell built, solid feel, quiet ride. Surprisingly peppy off the line acceleration. Fuel milage 20 percent poorer than advertized. Gas engine noisy under hard acceleration. Interior a bit too sterile looking, could use leather option. Needs better looking 16 inch wheels (as in Europe) In all a satisfing driving experience, but definately not as satisfing to drive as VW, Audi.

Dominos Prius - 2004 Toyota Prius
By alexx52093 - September 22 - 1:25 amI work for my local Dominos Pizza store. Its one of the bigger stores in my area, covering a HUGE area for delivery. My boss has two Priuss as company cars that us drivers get to drive (as well as other vehicles as well). The main Prius we use has been at this store for 3 years now. Its an 04 and was bought with 90K miles on it. It is used all day long every from opening to closing of the store. It now has 186K miles after 3 years of service. There has no been one single problem with it! It is always taken to the dealership for regular maintenance when it is needed. We drivers average about 44-48 MPG when we can. During dinner rushs we can pull around 38 MPG! These things are troopers!

A Great Vehicle - 2004 Toyota Prius
By Mark - September 18 - 4:03 amI just crossed 130K with my Prius and it will be five years old next month. I had done nothing but buy tires and change oil for first 100K. Then I had a rear wheel bearing and now a recent inverter fluid pump. No big deal for 130K. I almost always average over 50 MPG, for life of vehicle probably 51. 53/54 in spring and fall and 50 in winter. Ive had maybe 10 tanks less than 50 almost all in the winter and they were usually 48-49. I am not an aggressive driver and I keep it under 70. I commute 30 miles each way each day with about 16 miles on the highway avg about 67. I can beat cruise control on the Prius on long trips by using the hills to my advantage. Over 70 big loss of MPG.

50-60 MPG? - 2004 Toyota Prius
By Indiana Driver - September 6 - 2:00 amVery dissapointed in MPG so far. Have put 5,000mi on and the best so far is 47mpg. Seems colder weather affects MPG. Only get to about 380 miles on a tank before low gas warning starts to flash and then find out tank only takes about 8 1/2 Gl. to fill. Seats need more adjustment features, and leather would be nice. In town driving does not meet expectations.

Overhyped mileage - 2004 Toyota Prius
By corkoffice - August 30 - 5:03 pm60 MPG City??? NEVER. In real life I get 38-42 City and 45-50 Highway. Its time to get honest about Prius mileage. Why set up consumers to be disappointed by not getting a fictional 60 mpg?

Good overall car - 2004 Toyota Prius
By hard driver - July 15 - 10:00 amHave had the car for a month (1500 miles) since waiting 7 months. Gas milage is what we expected ranging from 41 to 64. My wife uses it to commute 85 miles a day and she is averaging 51. I am used to firmer rides, so springs in rear could be firmer but it handles adequately. Surprised that it could easily do 100 with 5 on board.

Great Car - 2004 Toyota Prius
By Ron O - June 28 - 2:56 amEnjoy driving it, and it is comfortable. AZ freeway speeds are 75 MPH. Car has no problems keeping up with the traffic (I seldom go over 80, but have reached 90 and above, with no problems). I average between 40 and 45 MPG.
