  • The Best Car I Ever Owned - 2004 Toyota Prius
    By -

I never bothered to fill out one of these reviews before. This time I have to, because the Toyota Prius deserves it. Good points: truly superb engineering; great driving experience; practical, quiet, comfortable, spacious, peppy, and of course economical. My lifetime average: 49,8mpg. Bad points: limited choice of colours; dealership experience can be poor. Delivery times can be long. Recommendation: drive one today; order one tomorrow; phone around lots to get good deals. Try smaller dealers not v. big ones. If only Toyotas marketing and servicing were up to the same high standard as their engineering!

Well built, solid feel, quiet ride. Surprisingly peppy off the line acceleration. Fuel milage 20 percent poorer than advertized. Gas engine noisy under hard acceleration. Interior a bit too sterile looking, could use leather option. Needs better looking 16 inch wheels (as in Europe) In all a satisfing driving experience, but definately not as satisfing to drive as VW, Audi.

This is a really nice car. High quality design and new technology that I believe will be in most new cars in 10 years or so. Hybrid automobiles use less gas and have nearly zero emissions. Its the ideal car for metropolitan area and will help the US conserve gas and lower smog levels. Plus its a great car! Fun to drive and lots of new gadgets.

I work for my local Dominos Pizza store. Its one of the bigger stores in my area, covering a HUGE area for delivery. My boss has two Priuss as company cars that us drivers get to drive (as well as other vehicles as well). The main Prius we use has been at this store for 3 years now. Its an 04 and was bought with 90K miles on it. It is used all day long every from opening to closing of the store. It now has 186K miles after 3 years of service. There has no been one single problem with it! It is always taken to the dealership for regular maintenance when it is needed. We drivers average about 44-48 MPG when we can. During dinner rushs we can pull around 38 MPG! These things are troopers!

  • A Great Vehicle - 2004 Toyota Prius

I just crossed 130K with my Prius and it will be five years old next month. I had done nothing but buy tires and change oil for first 100K. Then I had a rear wheel bearing and now a recent inverter fluid pump. No big deal for 130K. I almost always average over 50 MPG, for life of vehicle probably 51. 53/54 in spring and fall and 50 in winter. Ive had maybe 10 tanks less than 50 almost all in the winter and they were usually 48-49. I am not an aggressive driver and I keep it under 70. I commute 30 miles each way each day with about 16 miles on the highway avg about 67. I can beat cruise control on the Prius on long trips by using the hills to my advantage. Over 70 big loss of MPG.

  • Perfect Car - 2004 Toyota Prius
    By -

Toyota have really put together a fine car here. I drove the 2002 Prius and, as other Prius drivers have found, that the 2001 - 2003 Prius lacked in a few areas. Well Toyota listened to these complaints and redesigned the 2004 Prius to meet and excede everyone expectations. I am very pleased with the preformance of the 2004 Prius and look forward to seeing what Toyota will come out with next.

  • 50-60 MPG? - 2004 Toyota Prius
    By -

Very dissapointed in MPG so far. Have put 5,000mi on and the best so far is 47mpg. Seems colder weather affects MPG. Only get to about 380 miles on a tank before low gas warning starts to flash and then find out tank only takes about 8 1/2 Gl. to fill. Seats need more adjustment features, and leather would be nice. In town driving does not meet expectations.

  • Overhyped mileage - 2004 Toyota Prius
    By -

60 MPG City??? NEVER. In real life I get 38-42 City and 45-50 Highway. Its time to get honest about Prius mileage. Why set up consumers to be disappointed by not getting a fictional 60 mpg?

  • Oh, what a feeling - 2004 Toyota Prius
    By -

Toyota quality comes shining through in fit, finish and function. Everything seems so well thought out. If you are not afraid to be a little different, this car wont disappoint you. After a few miles, everything feels pretty natural. For me, it makes driving fun again w/o the need for raw performance or volume (noise). All the gadgets, "greenness" and fantastic mileage are frosting on the cake.
