  • My Second Prius - 2004 Toyota Prius

My first Prius was the 2002 compact model. When I saw the larger 2004 model, I traded. Ive driven it on long trips over mountains and averaged 51.7 mpg with a mixture of 70 mph Interstates and 45 to 55 mph 2-lane roads in the Mountains of KY, WV and VA. It has lots of room and is most comfortable and fun to drive.

  • Great Car! - 2004 Toyota Prius

Outstanding; fun to drive, good handling, more than adequate pick- up,keeps up with traffic on highways and inter-states, comfortable both in front and rear seats. Screens provide useful information on fuel consumption,cooling/heating and audio. Warning lights are helpful.Hatchback provides large storage area. Gas mileage is not as good as EPA estimate but still strong at high 40s per gallon. Front and side visibility are great but rear visibility is limited, requiring extra caution when backing or changing lanes. Lots of storage areas for smaller items. Plenty of cup holders. It is the best overall of any car Ive every owned.

  • I love the car -but not for snow country - 2004 Toyota Prius
    By -

After 10 months I still look forward to driving the 04 Prius each day. However, the car is useless in snow due to the full-time traction control system which prevents engine power to spin wheels if needed to dig out of snow. Instead, accelerator to the floor yields NOTHING - the wheels stay motionless rather than spin! This is a truly major diesign flaw (easily corrected by Toyota installing an on/off switch for the traction control system -but not currently available). Until this flaw is corrected I could not recommend the Prius to people living in snow country.

  • prius delivers - 2004 Toyota Prius

The leg room is great! The cruise works and delivers performance, lots of hills for us. It certainly is a screaming 4 cylinder so dont think to push the engine like a V8.

  • Car of the Future - 2004 Toyota Prius
    By -

The 2004 Prius is an amazing automobile. It is a car of adequate size for most transportation tasks and yet achieves over 50 MPG. It is a very nice looking car with good ride characteristics which is fun to drive. It is extremely environmentally friendly and, if driven by everyone, would reduce gas consumption in the USA by half. Truly the auto of the future.

  • 04 Prius - 2004 Toyota Prius

I was surprised at the power the Prius had when I needed to pass someone on the highway. I made a number of passes on a curvy two lane highway with no problems. My gas mileage is around 47 mpg, which is good, but less than I expected. The new Prius is fun to drive and attracts a lot of people with questions about its performance.

  • Not for highway cruising - 2004 Toyota Prius
    By -

The Prius is an excellent choice if you do mostly city driving. It averages 46 miles per gallon. The car is surprisingly spacious and controls are convenient and easy to use. Build quality is high. However, the car is not a good highway cruiser. At speeds over 60 miles per hour especially in windy and wet conditions, the car has a very unsteady feel. The power is ok but the handling felt very "slippery" and thats on pavement that was merely wet.

  • Prius means - 2004 Toyota Prius
    By -

I bought mine off the internet, sight unseen in September, 2003. Why? Look at the thing, it looks like the future! There are some laws that autos have to obey: the law of aerodynamics is expressed in drag coefficience, and Prius has the lowest of ANY production automobile. That means air slips around the car, even the fully covered undercarriage, and provides less drag= better gas mileage. There is alot of talk about hybrid gas/electric autos coming along this summer in SUVs. Yeah, but unless/until they reshape the vehicle and reduce the weight, they will never match the Prius for working WITH the laws of physics.

  • Love It - 2004 Toyota Prius

Cant understand people complaining about mileage, Ive NEVER gotten under 48 mpg and average 52-60! Roomy, even rear seat is comfortable. Its not as comfortable as my Lexus, but then theres a big difference in $$$. No complaints at all about handling: solid, takes hills well, very peppy, have to watch speed on interstate or Ill be doing 80 without realizing it. I laugh all the way to the gas pump these days!

  • Hot hybrid - 2004 Toyota Prius

With adjustments to driving style, Im routinely getting about 55 mpg. Interior more roomy than most sedans and with split back seat and hatchback, it can carry quite a load.
