Less than 500 miles thus far. First Average milage 46.5 per gallon. Like the Matrix the exterior design takes getting used to, but it grows on you. People are very interested in the hybrid engine system and Toyota has a good thing incorporating hybrids in their other models. I have had GM cars, Acura,VWs and rented Fords,Chryslers, but Toyota dependability is tops. Resale value or trade in values stink!

  • Not a basic Econobox but some flaws - 2004 Toyota Prius

I have a 50 mile daily commute so when it came time to get a new car fuel economy was a priority. The Prius fits the bill I average in the high 40s. In addition it ahs lots of storage and room for 4 people corfortably (better than my old Camry) Its fun to drive, gets lots of comments. Down sides, the interior is too light showes dirt easily, The drivers seat is a little narrow. Steering at freeway speeds is a little twitchy, like having a sluggish joystick. Paint chips easily. Panic stops the brakes grab oddly.

  • Fun, Practical, Reliable - 2004 Toyota Prius

The 2004 Prius offers a great, comfortable ride. It is fun to drive and at the same time very practical. As the price of gasoline climbs it is nice to know that the car is averaging 52+ miles to the gallon. Sitting in stopped traffic is less stressful because even though the AC and CD player are on no emissions are being released.

  • THE GREATEST HYBRID CAR YOU COULD OWN - 2004 Toyota Prius

THE TOYOTA PRIUS WAS SO FUN TO DRIVE AND KNOWING THAT IT WAS HELPING THE ECONOMY, IT WAS EVEN MORE FUN. THE SEATS ARE PERFECT AND EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT IT IS GREAT!

This is truly a car of the future. It a fun car to drive and a unique driving experienc. It very well made with great high tech features (hybrid engine, keyless entry, voice activated navigation). It is a bargain for the money.

I only have this car because I was unhappy with my previous (new 2004 Corolla). I have always been environmentally conscious, so this car is the perfect car for me. I am also quite a geek -- so this also fits that bill.

  • Dont buy this car - 2004 Toyota Prius

The Prius has had 2 recalls so far, the CD player was replaced once already and the new one doesnt play most CDs, I have a bad leak behind the dash and my floors got soaked and now with the cold weather my floor is frozen. Im waiting for my appointment to bring the car in. Ive had the car 8 months and its been in the shop 3 times already and its going again. My fuel mileage isnt the same since the computer recall, and no one can tell me why. The best city mileage Im getting is bet. 28 and 35 MPGs. I cant wait to sell this thing.

  • Very Good, With Some Reservations - 2004 Toyota Prius

Summary: Great economy, solid but unexceptional performance, comfortable, streamlining forced some compromises in rear headroom and visibility, annoying problem with fuel gauge. Overall recommendation is BUY. Ive had it for about 4 weeks now. I get about 45 mpg in mostly highway driving. Thats great for a mid-size, but well below EPA estimates. Accelleration and handling are good, but its no BMW. Smooth ride and very quiet, except under hard accelleration. Cargo space seems good, but I havent had to use it yet. The hood slopes so steeply that you cant see the front end. You just have to know the car stops 3 feet past the windshield.

  • Love my Penguin Prius in snow ! - 2004 Toyota Prius

Just bought a used Prius w/ 116,000 miles on it + got a pretty good deal. Took it to work all w/e in heavy 2-day Boston blizzard as I am a nurse + cant call in sick or take snow days. It was surprisingly great in the snow + exceeded all expectations. It is no snowplow but got me through it. The car is a wonder of technology + if @ 1st a little overwhelming it grows on you quick!

my new vehicle drives great on the highway and city driving. It will get to 100mph but my average is 55mph. Driving in the snow this past winter was easy. Driving in the heavy rain the tires gripped the road well. Best of all cornering was excellent in bad weather. I am averaging 47.7 mpg. Still waiting for the big 60mpg. Currently, I am planning a long road trip to Fl, AZ, CAL, and back to NY for vacation this summer.
