My Jump to Toyota - 2004 Toyota Prius
By Paul Bagwell - April 17 - 5:00 amAs a first time buyer of Totota Im very impressed with the purchase procedure from the dealership and the performance of my new Prius. From being on the waiting list to my phone call that it was my turn to make a decision I was treated with respect and honesty. One disappointment was that the Toyo Guard Protection was automatically included in the price. I dont feel for the price its worth it. My best fuel economy has been 55 mpg for a tankful of gas and the worst 42 mpg, an interstate trip @ 70-75 mph sustained, which I was delighted with.

Mileage mistated by Toyota and dealer - 2004 Toyota Prius
By Patrick W. - March 16 - 2:00 amAfter 3500 miles, ave. mileage is 45. Never came close to advertised mileage. This was expected as Prius owner-friends said same. OK except, when I suggested to the sales person at the time of purchase that the advertised mileage was "optimistic", he assurred me that it was accurate. Yeeah, right! Great car but I have had better buying experiences.

Good, not great - 2004 Toyota Prius
By M.B. - February 7 - 5:10 amThis car is overall well-built. I am not as impressed as I thought I would be. For around $30,000, this car does no better in fuel efficiency than my old 1995 Honda Civic VX hatchback. I once got 65 MPG on a trip in my Honda. The Prius, with all its technology and synergy drive, cant beat the fuel efficiency of a 13 year-old, non-hybrid, 5-passenger hatchback. Above that, the battery packs on this might soon run out. Im thinking Ill sell this and look for my old Honda.

Love my Prius - 2004 Toyota Prius
By shrink2477 - January 18 - 3:30 amI would order this car again without hesitation. Its fun to drive, gets good gas milage, is well designed, and has been an overall delight. Gas milage runs 45 in hot weather, and about 40 in cold. Not bad. High intensity headlamps are fantastic. Im totally satisfied.

So far, just what I expected - 2004 Toyota Prius
By sat-s-fied owner - January 2 - 12:56 amThe Prius has better pickup than advertised. You can do a lot to manage the fuel economy by coasting and thru controlled acceleration. It is not unusual to get 60+mpg for extended periods if you keep a steady cruise speed of 35 - 40 on country roads. Highway conditions (traffic) can produce 75+ mpg!! Kind of a reward for being stuck on jammed roads! The quality of the construction is excellent...but the tan interior fabric is too light to keep clean. The nav system does a terrible job of picking the best routes. I have heard there is a patch for that.

Mileage of Prius - 2004 Toyota Prius
By TYhealing - August 10 - 2:00 amI very much enjoy my Prius, however, the average mileage is far below what they state. One can expect to average 40 mpg. Toyota dealerships now even acknowledge this when questioned.

Improved mileage and HOV too! - 2004 Toyota Prius
By Huneybaer - August 10 - 2:00 amAlthough I am enjoying my Prius, there are certain things that I hope will be on future models. I like the hatchback and can fit many things into the back, but the split window leaves much to be desired.

Best Toy Ever! - 2004 Toyota Prius
By Sellen - August 10 - 2:00 amFrom the GPS Map to the LoJack to the CD player to the (extra cost) 75,000 mile warranty, this is the BEST TOY Ive EVER Owned! One problem - This car brings out my EVIL streak! This last Halloween I was following my kids while they went out for candy. I turned out my lights and started moving up (in Electric Mode) behind a group of teens. They had the BIGGEST scare of the night when ALL OF A SUDDEN a Car turns on its Headlights & Honks its horn, RIGHT BEHIND THEM!! They Never Heard Me COMING!! LOL!! If youre even THINKING about a Prius, GO FOR IT!! :) d. s. ellenwood, Lodi, CA

2004 Prius -- Early Experience - 2004 Toyota Prius
By davebizzak - April 10 - 2:00 amVehicle has suprising acceleration due to electrical motor assist. Start/stop of engine while driving are seemless and hardly noticed--not noticed if you are listening to the radio. Ride is quiet and controlled. The most striking difference between the Prius and other vehicles is the small steering wheel, which takes some getting used to. In short, there is not a more technologically advanced vehicle on the market, at any price. Its too early in life to rate reliability, but I have been impressed with build quality and past experience with Toyota suggests that reliability will be good.
