Overview & Reviews
The 2004 Toyota Prius is completely redesigned with a larger overall size, more power, better mileage and even more available features.
- Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
- Less power and room than other midsize sedans, center-mounted gauges not intuitive.

Gas up and pay - less - 2004 Toyota Prius
By JK Liu - December 22 - 10:00 amThere is a reason why there is a 6 month wait for this car. It has exceeded all my expectations in performance, comfort, convenience, consumption. If you want to half your trips to the gas station, and half the bills everytime. This is the car to get! I will trade-in my other car, an SUV for a hybrid SUV as soon as possible.

Not one regret - 2004 Toyota Prius
By klid - December 21 - 11:36 amBest decision I have made in awhile. It will take a few months to internalize the new driving methods for best fuel efficiency. Otherwise, this is like driving any other car.

Love it so far - 2004 Toyota Prius
By woodschuck - November 18 - 9:16 amBought a used Prius 3 months ago - drive it 60mi R/T to and from work each day, now use it for all errands on the weekend. Extremely pleased with it except for heavy snow - we are on a hill and when snowed in have to take the Nissan SUV to work instead. Average MPG is around 60, mostly secondary roads. No issues at all in terms of reliability, etc.

Energizer Bunny - 2004 Toyota Prius
By P Holloway - October 24 - 2:50 amWe purchased our Prius with 7,000 miles on it (original owner left country). It has performed exceptionally well except for the electronic issues that were repaired by removing and replacing the computer screen (Toyota covered it). Only other issue is Tires. The vehicle is heavier than most and you need to ensure that you purchase tires recommended by the owners guide to ensure that you do not risk the tire "rolling" onto the sidewall in a higher speed turn or situation where you must "dodge" an obstacle at higher speeds.

THE MORE YOU DRIVE, THE MORE YOU SAVE - 2004 Toyota Prius
By Zigmeister - October 9 - 10:00 amTHE MILEAGE IS EXCELLENT, ALTHOUGH DIPS DOWN TO 30-SOME MPG IN EXTREMELY COLD WEATHER AND HOT WEATHER (USE OF HEATER AND AC). TOP MILEAGE HAS BEEN 50, AVERAGE IS IN THE MID TO LOW 40S. THE SMALLER TIRES ON THE PRIUS MAKE THEM *SLIGHTLY* MORE SUSPECTABLE TO DAMAGE, AND THE SMALLER WHEEL BASE REQUIRES SOMEWHAT MORE CAREFUL STEERING AT EXPRESWAY SPEEDS--ONE SHOULD AVOID JERKY MOVEMENTS AT HIGH SPEEDS. OVERALL, AS AN EVERYDAY CAR, IT HAS PREFORMED VERY RESPECATABLY, AND I AM SAVING A FORTUNE AT THE GAS PUMP. FOR THESE 2 REASONS, I PLAN TO BUY A 2ND ONE.

Prius Delivers as Promised - 2004 Toyota Prius
By t higgins - October 9 - 10:00 amHave owned PRIUS for 5 months and driven over 5,000 miles. No problems encountered, car performs well as do all Toyotas. Good choice. Surprised at first that the car was not getting the 51 mpg highway, more like 45-46. Turns out, the battery doesnt work as efficiently in cold northeast winter. Logical, but appeared nowhere in literature or on in/on public reviews. Up to 52-53 mpg now, mostly highway. Range is truly 500 miles. Would have gotten the side air bags were they not bundled in with the sort of "bling- bling" an economy customer finds distasteful. Toyota, please give us the safety options separately.
