Overview & Reviews
Toyota's car-based Highlander SUV receives no changes this year.
- Roomy interior, car-like ride and handling, spunky V6 engine.
- Rear seat is uncomfortably low, no third-row seat, limited towing and off-road abilities.

Simply the Best - 2002 Toyota Highlander
By Bags - April 2 - 10:00 amIve been looking at purchasing a SUV to replace our family van for the last year. I have test drove and rented most of them to my disappointment. Poor handling, shoddy workmanship, lousy fuel mileage etc. But after trying in vain to purchase a Honda Pilot I came across the Highlander. The best move I have ever made was to test drive and go with the FWD 6 clylinder. Great looks, great gas mileage, handles like a dream and a nice sun roof. Who could ask for anything more.

Typical Toyo - 2002 Toyota Highlander
By sopranoboyo - February 24 - 10:00 amBought it, without telling the wife. After the fallout, let her have a long drive and, well. Lovely car. Manly truck. Smoooooth powertrain. Excellent visibility.

A Real Winner - 2002 Toyota Highlander
By Heather H. - February 17 - 10:00 amBought one last month and love it. Love the exterior design and the interior design. Did well in the crash test ratings which is important to me as a parent. Love the height and angle at which the radio and controls are. The back doors are full-size; no bonking your head trying to get into the back of this SUV. It is so fun to drive, although I have difficulty seeing past the headrest when backing up. Never had that problem with any vehicle. Just something to get used to.

Comfort and Security, but.... - 2002 Toyota Highlander
By cageym - January 12 - 10:00 amDespite careful break-in period, good maintenance and conservative driving, the gas mileage is worse than anticipated. Otherwise the comforts are there, fit an finish great, and winter handling impressive.

Great SUV - 2002 Toyota Highlander
By Phil Rodriguez - November 25 - 2:01 pmFirst SUV that I have ever owned, reliable and great. It has 106,000 miles and it is used as a family vehicle. I keep the maintenance on it when it is needed, for an SUV that has 16 years it is running great. Toyota knows how to make cars, trucks, and SUV that last a lifetime. I am sure that I will surpass 300,000 miles. Great SUV!!!

First Japanese built vehicle - 2002 Toyota Highlander
By Phil K - November 15 - 10:00 amVehicle has been very reliable. Gas mileage (4cyl) has been as rated without A/C, one mile less with. Paint/clearcoat seems a little softer than previous vehicle(non-Toyota).

SUV that drives like a Car - 2002 Toyota Highlander
By I500X - October 20 - 12:00 pmIve driven a few cars of similar size and type. They dont compare to this cars performance! The Highlander has great handling that gives the driver a nice feel for the road.. the steering is sharp.. the acceleration is good.. the brakes are excellent! The interior is pretty solid.. the only complaints i have is that it gets noisy at high speeds and the sound system could be better. Ive been using the Highlander for trips, moving boxes/furniture, moving heavy materials, and everyday use! Its very useful to have a larger car but the Highlander is not so large that it becomes bulky. It still feels like a car, rather than the truck (unlike the 4Runner).
