This Year's Model Updates:

The all-new 2000 Toyota Celica is considerably more performance-oriented than the previous model. Highlights include a sleek exterior, a 180-horsepower engine and six-speed gearbox for the GT-S, and sharp handling.

Pros:
  • New styling, new engines, new excitement.
Cons:
  • Celica GT-S engine is peaky for in-town use.

  • Fun to drive, poor visibility - 2000 Toyota Celica

Ive had this car for 3 years with only a "check engine light" that was minor and the hatchback cylinders were too weak for the spoiler. Other than that no problems whatsoever!!! I live in Indiana by the lake and the winters can be brutal to drive through with the low clearance so this is really a summer car or southern car.

I purchased the car from Poway Toyota last September 2003, which makes this car just 7 months old. I have already installed Strut Tower Braces on the front upper and lower, and on the rear, Titanium Shifters, race pedals, and an Injen Short Ram Air Intake which added 15 more horses on my stock 143 horses. The car is beautifully designed, and I planned to keep it that way except probably for a 19AXIS Hagen wheels on a Pirelli PZero Tires and APR wide-body kit. And yes, I also replaced that ugly stock FM Antenna that Toyota had on all Celicas with a rubber mounter high-flex high performance racing antenna.

What an awesome car! If I get to decide again, will buy the exact same car! Own since 03/2000. Regularly receive lots of compliments. No major problems. Handling, performance, reliability and looks cant be beaten.

Ive had my Celica for 4 1/2 years and this is by far the best of the 5 cars Ive owned. Its really comfortable, even on long trips, holds TONS of stuff in the trunk, is sporty, good looking and reliable. Im at about 111,000 miles, and although Ive had to put some money into shocks, belts, etc. lately, its nothing that I didnt have to expect to do for a car of this age. Ive had 2 mechanics tell me that I should easily get to 250k miles if not more without major problems, and that in their opinion, this is one of the most reliable cars you can own. The ONLY car I would ever trade this in for is a newer Celica...Im planning on driving this baby til it turns to dust.

My first brand new car and it has been all I expected. This is one car where the payments do not become a burden because you are having so much fun getting wherever you have to go. The aftermarket is good and getting better. Some available stuff: Custom exhaust, body kits (beyond "action package"), short shifters, headers.... well, everything but a turbo or surpercharger (but coming soon).

  • This is what a sport compact SHOULD BE!! - 2000 Toyota Celica

I purchased this car with 60,000 miles. This car is truly amazing. I have a fully loaded GT-S in red and it is by far the best car I have owned (out of 6). The steering is tight and precise, the shifter engaged beautifully and the handling is amazing. It isnt the quickest car but it is ultra lightweight and when the VVTL-i kicks in at 6200 rpm the thing really comes alive. I am 5 11" and the car fits me like a glove. Hatchback is very useful and holds a lot of cargo with the rear seats down. Never a single problem since Ive owned it. This is the ultimate Sports Compact!
