  • Zero Problems - 1996 Toyota Avalon
    By -

My wife has driven this car since new with zero problems. Just standard maintenance. The only problem I have with the car is that the wood trim fades and in a couple of places pealing. I guess not bad after nearly seven years. There are people that replace this aftermarket.

  • Approaching 200k - 1996 Toyota Avalon
    By -

After having bought the Avalon used in 99 with 40K, I have yet to have a major repair. Recommened maintenance, brakes, tires & time belts yes but no major repairs. Now approaching 200k with this track record ... why would I consider anything else.

  • Luxury Toyota - 1996 Toyota Avalon
    By -

I have had my Avalon for 8 years now and it has been a great car to drive. I love the larger interior and big trunk too. The A/c and heater are ten times better at cooling and heating than my Lexus. The ride is excellent and the engine is awesome. The paint does chip off really easy but overall this car has been the best Toyota that I have ever owned.

Purchased the car with 143k miles, its been a great family car. Its never let us down. Car fits 3 upfront if you need too with plenty of room upfront & in the back. Very smooth ride!

  • Excellent Workhorse - 1996 Toyota Avalon
    By -

While this car would not be considered a "workhorse" like a truck or whatever, it is a fantastic car for a salesman who has to cover a huge territory in all weather and have a car that looks good. Even though the car now looks somewhat outdated, it has kept its snazzy appearance quite well -- especially as compared to some of the Pontiacs and Fords Ive seen. The car has 125,000 miles on it and EVERYTHING still works as well as it did when it was new: windows, doors, sunroof, cupholder and yes, the TAPE PLAYER and CD. Im truly amazed at how many other cars Ive seen (like my friends Malibu) that never made it past the first 5 years. My Avalon still feels like a new BMW -- no joke!

  • My first and favorite car - 1996 Toyota Avalon
    By -

awe struck evrytime i got behind the wheel. I am 19 year old college student and i was so fortunate when my dad gave me his used 96 Avalon XLS three years ago. An amazing acceleration coming from a 3.0 V6 engine that made me fall in love with this car. One of the nicest machines on the road that never wne in for an servicing execpt the 3000 mile oil change. Even though it is a great family car because it is extremelly spacious, even the young and youthful love it. If you buy it i am positive you will not go wrong. A great car, a great price.

  • Best car i have ever had - 1996 Toyota Avalon
    By -

This car was on a lease that a friend of mine turned in he bought a new Avalon. It had about 30,000 mi on it and i now have 207,000 and it is still a great car. Have only put on tires, R&l CV joints and new struts. Have done routine maintenance change transmission oil and eng oil every 4,000 and still get almost 30 MPG. I have no intention of buying a new car and would take it on a long trip today. I have had this car in Drive so much the bulb has burned out on the dash

  • 302K and Still Going - 1996 Toyota Avalon

I purchased this car new in 1996. It was driven daily over the past 14 years. Only replaced brakes, and normal wear stuff. Just recently replaced transmission with one that had 145k miles. Just replaced both knock sensors to get the engine light off. It has been a great pleasure to drive. Just wondering if I can get it up to 400K miles. Due to the great experience Ive had with this vehicle, Ill probably buy another one when this one stops running.

  • Comfortable, Reliable and Bland - 1996 Toyota Avalon

We purchased our Avalon with 13,300 miles on it in August 1996 and sold it in September 2007 at 94,000 miles. My wife wanted a mid-to-large size sedan; this car replaced a 1986 Mercedes 300E. It was not purchased as a "glamor car." We bought the base XL model and added alloy wheels and pinstriping to spruce it up a bit. For 9 of the 11 years we owned it we lived in Southern CA; the last two years weve been in Tucson, AZ. Total cost of maintenance (including 14 tires) was $5,200, about $40/month. Usage was about 80% around town and 20% on the highway. The 192 hp engine proves good (but not blazing) acceleration. Overall a good - but not great - car.

  • After 165000 - 1996 Toyota Avalon
    By -

I purchased the vehicle used at 60k miles. After driving it for another 100k miles, I have not had any repairs to make. Many opportunities at routine maintenance (oil, brake pads, tires, timing...). The interior has held up and does not rattle and nor has begun to deteriorate as my previous Buick Le Sabre did at 80k miles (could stand driving it any longer). The words I would used to describe this vehicle is reliable and competent. It does not stand out in any automotive driving category, but simply does all well. The vehicle will also hold three full size car seats in the rear.
