Overview & Reviews
Toyota has tinkered with the options packages, but otherwise left the Avalon alone. A new luxury package for the XL includes power leather-trimmed seats, 15-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry and a JBL audio system. There's also a Sport Luxury package that adds 16-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler in addition to the items in the luxury package.
- Lexus-like quality, smooth V6 engine, huge rear seat.
- High price tag, funky dash design, toothy chrome grille.

Overpriced XLS - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By overpriced - February 11 - 10:00 amcomfortable ride, good acceleration, good amenities. However, transaxle has whine between 30 and 40 mph; wind noise around outside mirrors. Shouldnt have these problems with top of line Toyota and for the price.

Bang For the Buck - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By JML2 - September 3 - 2:00 amWe looked at all the full size cars and for the price we couldnt beat the Toyota Avalon. Its true that the exterior styling is not impressive but when your inside enjoying all the comfort and quality thats included in this car, who cares what the people outside see. One of the most pleasent things about the car is the back seat. Our friends tell us its larger and more confortable than our old Surburban.

One of the best cars ever - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By Spudo - July 4 - 8:26 amI bought this car when it was 4 years old and already had 114,000 miles on it. It has been a great car, even 50,000 miles later. Runs like new. Love the power, MPG, comfort and reliability. Have had to do normal maintenance, tires, battery, brakes, fluid changes. The only mechanical issue was occasionally the throttle body will get gummed up and the car will start but not idle. Simple fix, remove the idle air regulator and clean it good with a q tip and carb cleaner. Did this myself in about an hour, no problems since. Great gas mileage, will get 31 mpg on flat highway at 55 miles her hour. Closer to 28-29 at 65-70. City around 21. Get the XLS, as it adds all the luxuries such as heated seats.

Really Good Car - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By Sanjeev - June 4 - 10:00 amYou will be surprised to find such a good car at such a reasonable price. You will not drive anything less once you drive Avalon. Why would someone spend lots of money on smaller BMW ? This car is very roomy inside, you have to see it to believe it.

Best Car Ive Owned - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By Fulf - May 6 - 10:00 amThe first 9 months I owned this car I put on 23,000 miles driving 100 miles roundtrip to work each day. The time flew by due in part to the comfort of the ride, quietness, and ease of handling. It handled extremely well in the WI winter weather of snow and ice. Im ready to buy a 2004!

but one thing - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By chasjoret - April 22 - 10:00 amthe only thing I can say wrong is the front bucket seats dont have enought padding. On a long trip they get very unconfrontable.

Whta is Wrong? - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By dnc - January 26 - 1:00 pmWith everything else near excellent, Toyota Avalon XLS has very annoying whooping noise on decelaration when the car is slowing from 40 mph to stop. This noise like a turbine slong down.
