Toyota has tinkered with the options packages, but otherwise left the Avalon alone. A new luxury package for the XL includes power leather-trimmed seats, 15-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry and a JBL audio system. There's also a Sport Luxury package that adds 16-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler in addition to the items in the luxury package.

• Lexus-like quality, smooth V6 engine, huge rear seat.

• High price tag, funky dash design, toothy chrome grille.

  We purchased our Avalon in February 2002 and think its a very confortable car with great reliability. I do wish it had more power for passing.

  This vehicle gets very good gas mileage. It has very good, get up and go power. With 80,000 miles, we have had no major mechanical incidents. We love the roomy trunk space, as well as the full size spare tire. The one negative: the trunk lid sounds like a piece of tin when one shuts it giving a sense of cheapness. Otherwise, an excellent purchase. Resale value is not yet known but we will know soon.

  This is the first toyota Ive owned and so far Im very happy with it. The car handles and rides extremely well. The fit and finish is great. On our first trip out of town we got 31.4 miles per gallon.The car has every option and thet all work wery good and easy to use. One thing missing is a light under the hood, this is pretty minor considering the over all car. would definately reccomend this car.

  As a two time Camry owner and lover, I was ready to move to a larger, more luxurious car. The Avalon stole my heart immediately and still has it. Its larger and so comfortable, pretty and classy. You hardly even know youre driving, its more like sitting at home in a comfortable chair. It handles better than any car Ive ever driven. Great visability. The XLS has plenty of bells and whistles, plenty of pampering. Top it all off with Toyota dependability. The only flaw is that I know of Toyotas buckeling under to Jesse Jacksons extortion tactics.

  Had my 2001 for a year now. No problems except for the unease about oil sludging reported here and absolutely arrogant letter from Toyota. In the context in which I bought this car [park ave substitute], it performs well. Of course the "styling" is really bad. As with many others, a test drive sold me.

  ONE OF THE IMPORTANT POINTS OF BUYING THIS CAR WAS THE DASH DISPLAY. I WAS REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE TRIP DISPLAY. IMAGE MY SURPRISE WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THE COMPUTOR RESETS ITSELF EVERY TIME THE INGITION SWITCH IS TURNED OFF. HOW CAN YOU TAKE A LONG TRIP AND FIGURE OUT HOW WAS THE AVERAGE SPEED,TIME,GAS CONSUMSION. I AM TALKING TO MY DEALER AND IF I CANT GET AN ANSWER I WILL BE IN CONTACT WITH TOYOTA. THERE SHOULD BE RADIO CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL.

  I absolutely love this car. I have severe back problems and this is the only place I can actually be comfortable. The only flaw I found was in the cruise control. It does not maintain its speed on a decline. I have never been happier with a car than I have been with this.

  Couln"t be more pleased with a vehicle. Only have had 5 cars...all purchased new...all foreign...1 previous Toyota (stolen at 10 yrs old. Looked great, drove great...didn"t start once / battery). The 2002 Avalon is fantastic. Would buy again.

  I love this car. It is very roomy on the inside. Smooth ride on the highway. Great JBL Stero system. I got the sport luxary package and am glad I did.
