Overview & Reviews
Entering its second generation, the 2000 Avalon is roomier, more powerful and more technically advanced. The Kentucky-built Avalon features new styling inside and out, enhanced safety features, increased engine performance, and more comfort and convenience than its predecessor.
- Lexus-like quality, smooth V6 engine, huge rear seat.
- High price tag, new styling might not go far enough to avoid blandness.

Great car. - 2000 Toyota Avalon
By Mitzie - November 26 - 10:36 amI bought the car new and most of the time I am the only driver. I put new tires on this past winter. The car is clean. Except for regular maintenance I have had very little trouble with this car. I replaced the water pump a few years ago and the brakes.

Solid car - 2000 Toyota Avalon
By jmacgregor87 - May 13 - 4:50 pmI live in the NW and this is my girlfriends car. She has owned it since day 1 of its life and takes good care of it. Miles; 126K Pros; Dirves great, good gas milage, stars every time, dependable, and is comfortable for long hauls. Cons; In the last 2 years things have started to break/fail. She has replaced the key ignition twice for 2 different reasons. Some rattles have started to show up, it is 10 years old. The sub-woffer has a short, we found out its in the stereo it self.

Not what they used to be - 2000 Toyota Avalon
By Bob - May 4 - 2:00 amPros: Great fuel economy for the size. VERY comfortable interior. Interior cabin is huge. Tons of rear legroom ! Cons: Rides like a 1970 Lincoln Mark 5 but handles like one too. Getting ready to take it in for yet another Toyota recall. Sensors going bad left and right. 02 and air-fuel ratio sensors and now the air bag light started flashing. It is also starting to have electrical gremlins (lights flickering)I have owned several Toyotas in the past and the quality and reliability used to be 2nd to none. Man has that changed. Ever wonder why Ford is selling so many vehicles now ? Because they build a better vehicle...Wake up Toyota, you lost yet another customer.

Ugly, but beautiful in overall quality - 2000 Toyota Avalon
By Rube - December 31 - 2:10 amWhen I first set my eyes on the car. I thought this is the ugliest car I have ever set my eyes on. But I drove it and I was sold. I was initially looking at the Acura TL, Audi A4, the new I30. But a family member asked me to drive the Avalon, I did and the rest is history. 50,000 miles and not one problem.

By MJD - May 22 - 2:00 amI didnt like its looks at first, but I wanted a safe car for my wife. I have been very surprised with the quality of this car and it rides and handles well. Ive driven trucks and SUVs my whole life so this is a small car to me but its very comfortable.

Engineering errors and Ergonomics - 2000 Toyota Avalon
By Disillusioned - April 4 - 10:00 amSun shining from above and behind hits instrument cluster glass, reflects up on windshield and back into drivers eyes. Second problem is that you cannot shut the center air vents without turning off all four vents. If not shut off cold air chills the drivers right arm or if directed up, chills his bald head. . I . Also cant read the info panel unless tthe sun shine right on it. Dangerous as I must take my eyes off teh road to read the symbols.

suspension - 2000 Toyota Avalon
By donna - September 11 - 4:56 pmI have had this car for almost three months and have had problems with the suspension. So long as I am driving on smooth pavement, it is wonderful. On bumpy roads I feel like Im rocking and rolling. The main complaint is that they say it is a five passenger car so long as the passengers dont weigh more than a pound. With Passengers in the back seat the car bottoms out, scraping the road when going over any bumps. Sadle enough,Toyota says this is "normal". I didnt know it was normal to drag the road in such an expensive car. Doing my research, Ive come to realize that the Avalon has this problem and Toyota refuses to address it.They have compromised on the suspension.

engine sludge - 2000 Toyota Avalon
By Little Johnny - October 29 - 2:00 amBe very careful when buying a Toyota V6 because of engine sludge problem. Other than arguing with Toyota to fix the problem, the Avalon is treating me nicely.
