  • Great car, AWD is big plus for our snow season - 2016 Subaru Legacy

Its a great car with a few important qualifications to consider: The stock tires arent very good, so if you buy it for winter driving, as we did, youre going to need replacements very soon after purchase. This car was the 3rd out of 4 Subarus we have purchased (all at the same dealership and sales rep). The others were a Forester (2009), Outback (2012) and another Outback (2017). The Forester and Outbacks are MUCH better in the snow given their higher high ground clearance and are unstoppable on bad roads (except for the cars in front of you of course), the legacy is a sedan, so even with the AWD on all models, you wont get the same ground clearance and hence as good snow performance as the Outbacks or Foresters. DO NOT BUY A BLACK SUBARU!!!! The paint will Scratch incredibly easily. My wife ran it through a non-touchless car wash, the washes that use the big rotating brushes, and the car came out with $300 worth of damage on the hood. But it has also had spots on the roof and trunk. This apparently happens when dirt, bird poop, sap, etc., is on the car in the sun. Whatever it is, the black paint gets so hot it will "cook" it resulting in the paint bubbling up and cause expensive to repair damage. In our case, the dealer went back to Subaru and theyre going to repaint the car, mostly due, I think, to the fact that weve bought four Subarus from one dealership in the last seven years.

  • Excellent handling on snow and wet surfaces! - 2016 Subaru Legacy

This car handled great during a heavy rain storm. The headlights are excellent and I love the mirrors deflect headlight blind from behind. The stereo system is great and the controls work fine. The controls on the steering wheel are easy to operate and I love the mute button for the stereo. The drivers seat adjust up,down, lumbar and the steering wheel adjust, its perfect.

  • Happy Mothers Day to Me! - 2016 Subaru Legacy

I have recently retired. Since I am not that informed about cars, I felt I needed to get a car that is known to be dependable. This is what I got in my new/used Subaru Legacy. I also wanted to treat myself, so I found one with all the whistles and bells to make me a happy driver.

  • Lack of wow - 2016 Subaru Legacy

Acceleration is adequate at best. Engine strains when you need extra power. Fuel economy is just ok. Handlingis ok but you feel safe in car. For a car like that they should offer high intensity front lights.

I can get a bicycle in the back with the fold down seats. Great power on the road, very comfortable on road trips.

I struggled with the decision on which car to buy in this segment. For me it basically came down to the Honda Accord and the Legacy, and I really really liked the accord and every publication will tell you it is a MUCH better car than the Legacy, but when it came down to it, the AWD and the interior space is what one me over with the Legacy. The Legacy is slightly bigger, Im not sure how they compare exactly in measurements but I know when you sit in the drivers seat and reach over to the passenger side the accord is smaller and the arm rest on the accord is much smaller. This is an important aspect for me because Im 63"/225lbs, I need all the space I can get and dont like feeling stuffed into my car. The AWD was important because I work in the medical field and live in Michigan=no snow days. Ive had front wheel drive cars before and they were fine, but there is just a little more confidence when you have the AWD that is going to help on those few days a year where you feel like you might die on the way home from work:) Not a big fan of the touch screen, I like the set up on the accord better, and if you have to touch the screen while driving it is a reach for the driver so that isnt convenient. The mileage has not been great, it is saying for the first 700 miles Im averaging 25.5mpg and I drive a mix of city highway, so certainly hoping that will go WAY up. I do LOVE the car though. Smooth, quick, feels more luxury inside than the price, quiet, all in all I look forward to driving it and am proud to own it. What I learned is that you can read all the reviews from the professionals but until you drive the car itself you wont know if its a good fit for you. This car might not break the top ten on a lot of lists, and there are a few things Id change, but it is a GREAT car.

Great value for the money Only issue seems to be a lag in the transmission when going from reverse to drive. Service team said its normal CVT. I dont believe it

  • Do NOT believe the MPG rating - 2016 Subaru Legacy

We have put just about 1k miles on our car after trading in our 2010 Toyota Camry. My wife drives the same as she always does back and forth from work and it is half highway and half street. We get a BEST 22mpg. That is no where near the 30mpg combined they advertised. She would fill up her tank in the Toyota which has the same size tank and it would last her about 2 weeks. Now we are barely making it one week before we need to fill up again. Horrible advertising In my book. Would NOT have bought the car if I knew that it was going to be this bad. Im hoping for engine break in but was told that it wasnt likely by Subaru. The rest of the car is great, the transmission is definitely sketchy but you get used to it. Overall we really like the luxury about the car ( I drive a 2010 Lexus IS250 and it is probably better than it ) but the gas mileage is not what we expected. DONT believe the salesman as that is a MAJOR selling point they use. Once we bought the car the reneged on that sales point of course!
