This Year's Model Updates:

The Xterra has been fully redesigned for 2005 with a new platform, a more powerful V6 and a more spacious interior.

Pros:
  • One of the most powerful V6s in the class, above average off-road capability, solid passenger room, innovative cargo features.
Cons:
  • Still not what we would call refined on the street, a few instances of low-grade interior materials.

  • powerful upgrade - 2005 Nissan Xterra

No question the redesigned X-terra is more powerful and more spacious. My next door neighbor has a 2004 x-terra and wants to upgrade, now that he has experiences the new model. cons: I agree with Edmunds that there is some weakness on the interior, but very little. The seat material seems prone to snag, but is great at allowing for the flow of heat (and keeping you cool) on those hot summer days. Did I mention that this thing is really powerful! If you are thinking about getting an X-terra, dont even consider buying a used one, there is just too much improvement in the 2005 to consider an older model.

  • Its a truck! - 2005 Nissan Xterra

I just picked up my Xterra last night, so Ive only driven it 50 miles, mostly city. I havent loved a vehicle this much since my 1995 Ford Bronco. The Xterra is definetly not a luxury vehicle, and although my last SUV (Toyota Sequoia Limited)was, I find I dont miss the plush interior and "bells and Whistles." What the Xterra lacks in interior luxury it makes up for in other ways. The Rockford Fosgate-powered stereo system is awesome, you can feel the base in your seat! The new engine in the Xterra is so powerful you really have to watch yourself. Ultimately the Xterra rides like a truck not a car, to me thats a good thing. Its a great truck!

Were very pleased so far with our Xterra. It has room for our kids and is very versatile. Interior is easy to clean, big plus with kids, VERY capable offroad. Engine has plenty of power, which I upgraded with an air intake and exhaust system, probably got me 15 to 20 extra HP. Now it sounds as good as it goes. Handles well and is easy to park.

  • Traded in after numerous repairs - 2005 Nissan Xterra

Absolutely loved my Xterra, kept it maintained and planned to keep it a very long time. Then the problems started after I hit 60,000 miles. Fuel sensor, several batteries, belts (that had screeched since 1 year old and dealer couldnt figure out), then the tensioners, timing chain. After that $1,000+ repair, saw online all the radiator leaks into the transmission being reported and decided to cut my losses and traded it in. Received notification of an extended warranty on the radiator/tranny failure to 80,000 miles the week after I traded it. Had 70,000 on it anyway and would not have been willing to take a chance on needing that $5,000 repair. Depressing.

My first SUV. Test drove a Jeep Liberty but wanted a little more size for min. cost. Cant beat the quality, reliability, design and cost of the 2005 Xterra. For the younger crowd, you cant beat this SUV!

  • Good for what it is - 2005 Nissan Xterra

I replace my VW Passat with this vehicle, and based on my experiences with nissan, I am expecting better reliability. First of all, this is a truck, if you want a car, or an SUV that drives like a car -- dont but this vehicle. Utility is great, with little storage spaces everywhere. It drives alright for a truck, and seems pretty stable. Im 64", nad have a enough legroom - something that set it apart from others in its class. Im getting about 18 MPG, which is ~ok~, but certainly not good The only real negative is he stock setero -its gotta go - terrible brakes are a little soft for my liking, but I am comparing it to a BMW 325 and VW Passat.

Great horsepower, seems like it has more room than the pathfinder and it seems it has the same options as the pathfinder. Fuel is better than the 04 model with a bigger engine. Did not seem worth the money to spend more for the pathfinder. My wife does not like big vehicles but loves the Xterra. It does drive like a truck, well it is a truck.

  • The Best - 2005 Nissan Xterra

I own a 2000 Nissan Xterra. I have 160,000 miles on it . Those are over the road, hill and dale and back. I do understand this is for later Xterras, but my plan is to take it to 250,000 then I ll write another rev iew. We have towed with it, camped with it, we have slept in it. We came up with another reason to have flashing lights and horns to lock the doors, bear repellent, it works. We are planning to buy another one when we hit 250,000 miles. My kayaks also love the roof, they spend alot of time up there traveling. For the money you cant go wrong, it rides smooth, handles like a go kart. We have totally enjoyed it. Like the new step in the bumpers also.

  • Not a Yuppie SUV - 2005 Nissan Xterra

The Xterra is an awesome SUV. It took a few days to get use to the F-ALPHA truck frame but wow what a smooth ride. The acceleration from a dead stop or merging into traffic is no problem. Took a corner at 40 MPH and the Xterra did not even lean.
