This Year's Model Updates:

The Xterra has been fully redesigned for 2005 with a new platform, a more powerful V6 and a more spacious interior.

Pros:
  • One of the most powerful V6s in the class, above average off-road capability, solid passenger room, innovative cargo features.
Cons:
  • Still not what we would call refined on the street, a few instances of low-grade interior materials.

I love this truck. I have been driving Explorers since 94. This thing smokes them 10 to 1. Plenty of power and off road it rocks. I go places where some jeeps have trouble. The ride is on par with the explorer. But the motor is way better. Mpg is about the same I avg about 20mpg 60/40 driving hwy/city. No problems of any kind yet.No rattles or squeaks I am at 60000 miles. Time for some new rubber. I just couldnt be happier.

  • A great bargain - 2005 Nissan Xterra

Well built, powerful, and easy to drive in tight quarters. High seating position gives a commanding view of the road, but the short wheelbase means it can park where the soccer-mom Suburbans cant.

  • Capable but rugged - 2005 Nissan Xterra

We traded in a Caravan for a new 2005 Xterra. We were really tired of the minivan and wanted something with more power and something to pull our new atvs. Poor decision. The ride is anything but good. The interior is all plastic and cheap. The stereo has poor sound. Poor fuel economy. Overall the vehicle is very off-road capable and tows very well. Other than that it is definitely not something you want to take on a trip. If you dont need the offroad or towing capability, look elsewhere for something more accommodating. The ride quality alone will tire you even on a couple hour ride. Also it is very difficult to get in and out of the rear seats. Not something you want if you have kids.

i love this vehicle. my only problem is the looseness of the steering wheel. it did take some time getting used to, but it proved out well in our 600 mile drive to FLA for spring break.

I bought mine brand new in 2005. I now have 116,000 miles on the vehicle. I do a lot of driving. This is a fun car to drive on road and off road. I have taken it on many off road trails and it handles very well off road and will climb steep hills, drive through muddy roads, deep snow. Quality wise its a good vehicle, Ive had problems with the CD player, Im on my 3rd one right now. Ive had some squeaky belts replaced a few, this can be annoying with the car squeaking. The most expensive repair Ive had is when the computer went out on the car and the car was out of warranty.

My previous vehicle was a 1999 Pathfinder which had 165,000 miles. The new pathfinder is more a city SUV, so I opted for the Xterra. What a good choice I made. Same fuel economy with alot more power than the previous pathfinder. Love it.

  • a real suv - 2005 Nissan Xterra

This is a real suv. No leather option, no four wheel indepenent suspension, plenty of cleats for anchoring cargo, plenty of horse power and torque with a fun 6 speed tranny and plenty of towing capacity

  • WOW, what a truck!! - 2005 Nissan Xterra

I found the truck used on autotrader for $22,000 and i had to have it. i traded in my 2000 dodge ram in to get it, and havent looked back yet. I would suggest it to anyone who is wanting a larger SUV without the fuel economy of an 8 cyl gas guzzler. It has plenty of power (265 hp) and plenty of ground clearance. I get alot of looks driving my jet black xterra with my xm blairing "the squiz" going down the road. Fantastic truck. Highly recomended!

  • Loved it until this year - 2005 Nissan Xterra

I bought it new, this year has been hell.I spent about 2k in one month. then the catalytic converters went out. Covered by warranty but Celebrity Nissan did a horrible job with the repair and charged me 200 for some testing that no one can explain. In the end Reed Nissan had to put a new engine in it about a month ago. Still having problems with transmission slipping but no one will take responsibility for it. Big surprise. Nissan of North America will do nothing for you if you have problems. I want to get rid of this car now. Until this year I loved it but Im so disappointed now with the dealership and Nissan in general. Does anyone stand behind their products anymore. NO!
