After a substantial update in the middle of the 1999 model year, the Pathfinder soldiers into the new millennium without change. However, rumor has it that later in 2000 the Pathfinder will get a massive power upgrade.

Bought in 10/2002 with 36k. Not much by way of maintenance to report until the last couple of yrs. Pretty reliable. I did get stranded early on with the Ignition, but then NOTHING out of the ordinary until 125k. Maintenance: @ 60K replaced Ignition Key Switch-$100 @ 75K minor brake work and tires-$600 (including the cost of tires) @ 125K replaced timing belt, hoses water pump etc.-$1200 Now at 140K and the exhaust needs replacing & steering is jacked up. Mechanic says the rack and pinion bushings are deteriorated. Rear shocks need to be replaced--$18-2000. Only going to bring a couple grand in trade-in, so probably going to pay the $2k with hopes of a couple more yrs of life!

  • Would buy another in a heartbeat! - 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

Bought my beloved pathy used in 2010 with 155kmi on it, had it for 3 yrs till it was totaled in an accident. We were rear-ended @ 50 mph & only had some bad whip-lash. It still drove, stopped & shifted fine after the accident so we drove it home. We brought the mileage up to 203kmi due to frequent trips from upstate NY down to SC & back. Never had ANY problems with it on any of those long trips. It never broke-down on us in 3 years. Only had to do basic maintenance over the years (brakes, oil changes, timing belt etc). Overall, no big complaints that would stop me from buying another. VERY solid & VERY reliable! Money well spent!!! Nissan got it right!

Ours is a plain Jane XE. Bought it new - now has 144,000 miles. Timing chain and waterpump@105k new struts@130k. Some brake work - forgot just what. Transmission serviced, oil changed each 3000 mi til 99k. Now using Mobil one 15,000 mile oil -changed each 10k - doesnt seem to burn any. Id drive it across country tomorrow.

Very reliable!!! Had no problem in 6 years. It is fun to drive this SUV. Compare to other SUV from the same year, I would say it is more quiet and comfort than 4Runner.

  • Great truck - 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

I think this is a great riding truck. I bought it after trying an Envoy The LE has a better suspension then the SE it is setup to give a luxury ride. Dont expect lots of power but the gas mileage is not really that bad compared to the 2001 models.

  • Love my Pathfinder - 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

I can do so much more with my Pathfinder than I ever could with any other car. We love to fish and camp and have been able to get to new spots with it that we could not get to in any car. We have had a lot of rain in the Northeast this year and it has gotten me out of deep mud several times. The gas mileage is so-so, but not bad compared to other SUVs. We live in a pretty populated area and I have no trouble merging in heavy 60+ mph traffic so dont listen to what they say about the engine. All in all, this is a great looking, sporty SUV that will get you unstuck and you will feel great driving it.

  • Reliable ride for 3 years - 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

Bought this Nissan with 99.000 km (Canada), sold it 3 years later with 143.000 km. No issues whatsoever, absolutely reliable, rattle free, firm ride, no squeaks. Started every time in any temperature without any hesitation. Only dislike I had was underpowered engine and Pathfinders feature of not locking the torque converter until the engine is hot. When you get on the hwy with cold engine, it seems like the 4th gear wont shift in. I actually thought first that its a bad tranny :-) Other than that, awesome vehicle. Oh - gas milage is poor - got 15 mpg in city, maybe 16 on hwy, light foot. My 04 4Runner has better milage and more power, but not as smooth ride like Pathfinder

  • Good, solid vehicle - 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

Some of the reviewers really amaze me. Do people really feel maintenance items are a reflection of a cars quality? Having to replace tires, brakes, shocks, etc. These are not reliability issues. These are regular maintenance items for ALL vehicles. My PF now has 110K miles. Ive had to replace a bad Speed Sensor, and worn suspension bushings. The vehicle starts up without hesitation every day, runs great, and will get me wherever I need to be. Ive had many other vehicles that start falling apart at 50K with major mechanical issues. If these cars require some maintenance, its because they run an awfully long time. Id rather have the burden of maint. than another car junked.

  • 2000 Nissan Pathfinder 4Dr SE 4WD Wagon - 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

I purchased this Pathfinder in 2003 with 44,000 miles. It now has over a 100,000 on it and I couldnt be happier. I have had no major problems with it and have kept up on all the regular maintenance. This truck is very reliable and would recommend it to anyone. I plan on keeping this one for a few more years though as its just too good to give up so soon.

  • very reliable SUV - 2000 Nissan Pathfinder

Very reliable SUV that can tow 3000lbs without concern. Its limit is 5000, but thats pushing this engine to its max. Very nice ride that gets about 20+ with mostly hwy driving. Comfortable on long trips and 4WD is great for the snow or dirt.
