All these kind of NISSAN model have the same particular of major problems. There are two major design problem that customers kept encounter on: First is in the manifold (main muffler separated between engine) This type of problems can cost us a fortune to be fix. The second problem is THE TRANSMISSION because of the overheated TRANS. OIL which could put a big hole on consumer products faulty of bad design.

Ive had mine for 2.5 years. Herere the list of repair/maintanence beyond oil chage Ive encountered so far: 1. 2001.3. Replaced exhaust manifolds: (removed heatshield and re-positioned rubber hose on top-- supposedly this would prevent future breakage) : $700 2. 2001.5. Brakes. Rear cynlinder leaked: $100 3. Oiling chassis. Replaced rusted nuts from undercar: $25 4. tuneup (replaced plugs, distributor cap and wires) $50 This puppy does NOT like anything other than the expensive NGKs!!! 5. 2003.3. Alternator $300 Remaining issue: ABS light stays on 99% of the time since the breakdown of alternator.

I had this truck for two years and I loved every minute of it. I was always reliable and no matter what I did to it, it always started. As long as it was taken care of. Really fun to offroad with.

  • Loving it to death - 1995 Nissan Pathfinder

I love it. It is the most reliable and go everywhere vehicle. Ive now got 247,000 miles and it gives no indication of quitting anytime soon. Regular maintenance and love make it happy. Ive driven it in the desert, mountains, snow, wind, you name it. It performs like a champion.

  • the true SUV - 1995 Nissan Pathfinder

The best SUV Ive ever owned. It has its own spirit. Fun to drive good on gas, worth every penny. Much better choice than Toyota or Jeep. Two thumbs up !!!

  • Decent SUV - 1995 Nissan Pathfinder

Pros: no major mechanical problems so far. 4WD is great in the snow, it can be used up to 60 mph. Always starts up immediately, even in sub-zero temps. Gas mileage is ok for an older suv. Cons: extremely high engine, wind, and road noise. Poor acceleration for the engine size. Speedometer, odometer stopped working and cost several hundred dollars to repair. Rear seats are awkward to sit in. Cupholders are in a very strange location... any cups get in the way when shifting. Spare tire takes up about 1/3 of the trunk space.

  • Nice truck. - 1995 Nissan Pathfinder

My first truck. Previously drove sportscars (RX-7, Scirocco, CRX, Talon AWD) and an Outback. The Pathfinder is a capable off and on road performer. Handles like a truck - heavy and sluggish (expected). Still fun to drive especially off road. Good in the snow. Lots of room and decent towing power. Raised rear "theatre" seating is great for smaller passengers.

I like the car over all, it will get me where I need to go, but the acceleration and top speed are pretty bad. I have to do alot of work to mine, iv had to replace the brakes twice, the brakes arent very good. Its peppy, but not a performance car in any way. The problems I have with the car are all small. Only big problem Ive had was with the headlights. The previous owner ran wires directly from the headlight wire to something else(havent followed wire) and the fuse would blow when headlights were turned on, I disconnected the wires and problem was gone. The safety issue was plastic burning when headlights were on, possible fire in steering wheel... wouldnt have been good. happy w/ car overall

  • Frame Rust! - 1995 Nissan Pathfinder

I would have only good things to say about this vehicle, except it has a horrible problem with rust. It was bought in the NE and supposedly undercoated, but I can no longer get the car inspected, and can find no body shop willing to weld the rusted out frame. I have to scrap an otherwise perfectly good and well maintained car. Too bad, I love the style, the sportiness, and the design, but Ill never buy another Nissan rust bucket.
