Model Overview:

The Nissan Murano was one of the first midsize crossovers introduced in the United States and quickly became a popular alternative to more traditional SUVs thanks to its taut, carlike driving character and avant-garde styling. Later Nissan Muranos are notable for their higher-quality interiors, updated technology features and higher fuel economy ratings.

New or used, the Murano is definitely worth a look if you're on the hunt for a midsize crossover with seating for five. In reviews, our editors have generally praised this Nissan's sophisticated appearance, stylish and comfortable interior and strong acceleration. Middling cargo capacity and poor rearward visibility are our main complaints about the Nissan Murano. You'll find competing models that are better on one or both of these counts, but most won't match the Murano's combination of performance and style.

  • Wont Buy Another Nissan - 2004 Nissan Murano

This was my first brand new car. Bought Nissan because of reliability. Have been sorely disappointed in quality of car. Have had to replace both front door locks (quit unlocking) windshield (mirror came off with a chunk of windshield with it) Bose 6-CD player quit after 2 years. Now some of the display on radio doesnt work. Drivers side visor falls down 20 times a day & is now velcroed to the headliner. Lost one of the black inner fenders somewhere. One of the little trays in console no longer opens. Drivers seat rocks & moves when you start & stop. Local dealer "has never heard of any of these problems before with a Murano". Im trading it off ASAP.

I love to drove my Murano. It corners well, is quiet and feels like a car, not a SUV. I dont like how loud the air conditioning system is, the stiff ride when encountering bumps or the fact that there is no power to charge my cell phone when the car is off.

EVERY SUV I looked at pretty much had the "tippy" syndrome. In inclimate weather, I dont want a car thats going feel tippy much less BE tippy. Just about all these SUVs looked the same, too. Now...the Murano....what an unbelievably sharp looking car!! Weve had it for a year, and it STILL turns heads!! As for room, my husband is 62" and can cross his legs in the back seat...and it fits in our garage beautifully!! Absolutely NO tippy!! Take a turn and it stays flat!! We love this car!!

  • Murano is Great - 2003 Nissan Murano

I have been driving the Murano for a month and really enjoy the ride and handling. Both are just perfect for the size and performance of the vehicle and the road conditions in southeast Michigan. I no longer even realize the non-shift operation of the CVT transmission, but it makes for very quick and smooth acceleration. In all, this is a great vehicle.

THE SUV IS AWESOME, THE ALARM WENT OFF FOR THE TIRE PRESSURE AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER RIGHT AWAY TO KNOW THERE WAS A SCREW IN MY TIRE. AS WITH OTHER CARS I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN AND GOT A FLAT AND BEEN STUCK! BUT THEN AGAIN NISSAN ALWAYS BUILDS A GREAT CAR FOR YOUR MONEY.

My first Nissan. I have been impressed so far. My baby is Arctic Blue metallic with black leather interior. I fell in Love with the exterior design. Very sexy! She is gorgeous . Have had it for about a month now. Good gas mileage with extended range. Lots of Interior room, very comfortable. Has a lot of get up and go. All wheel drive is great, snow and Ice no problem.

So now that the 2003 models have some serious mileage on them, I am curious how many of them had transmission issues... At 68,000 we had to replace ours and 30,000 miles later, the transfer case had to be replaced. Got past the minor annoyances (poorly placed rear cup holders, buttons on rear view mirror should be lit) early on but the transmission issue is a problem.

Tires cost double to replace and wear out twice as fast Engine blew up at 52,000 miles while regularly maintained Ride is bumpy due to giant skinny tires Zero help from Nissan
