Model Overview:

The Nissan Murano was one of the first midsize crossovers introduced in the United States and quickly became a popular alternative to more traditional SUVs thanks to its taut, carlike driving character and avant-garde styling. Later Nissan Muranos are notable for their higher-quality interiors, updated technology features and higher fuel economy ratings.

New or used, the Murano is definitely worth a look if you're on the hunt for a midsize crossover with seating for five. In reviews, our editors have generally praised this Nissan's sophisticated appearance, stylish and comfortable interior and strong acceleration. Middling cargo capacity and poor rearward visibility are our main complaints about the Nissan Murano. You'll find competing models that are better on one or both of these counts, but most won't match the Murano's combination of performance and style.

The transmission went out on our murano at 100,000 miles. Just as the warranty was up. we had to pay $6,000 to replace it and Nissan would not help us in any way. What I am disgusted by is the nonsupport that we received from Nissan. Ive written several letters only to be ignored or told to send my inquiries elsewhere. I will never! purchase another nissan and have already gotten several of our friends to back out of purchasing a nissan. Prior to this, the cat. convertor went out. Luckily this was still under warranty. Since then, weve had a bearing go out in a tire and one of the arms (shocks?) went out-total $1,000. this is an unreliable vehicle for obvious reasons.

Picked up my 2009 SL AWD today, and man is it fun to drive. It has every option you can get on the SL (i have the dual panel moonroof instead of the DVD). The wife loves the dual panel moonroof, I love the navigation and the bluetooth. The start of the engine is a nice growl, and the rearview camera will start your journey out the right way. The turning radius is great, and the handling of the sterring wheel is fantastic. The ride truly is smooth, even over bumps and road imperfections, and you will find yourself well over the speed limit if you dont monitor your speed. The CVT truly is quite nice once you get used to it. Braking is safe and quick.

The TV ads gave me the impression that this was a much smaller vehicle.A visit to the dealer prompted a test drive that resulted in a purchase.Compared to my Pathfinder the Murano has more interior space. It has the power and handling of a performance car.The fit and finish is what I expected...EXCELLENT

  • 2004 NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS - 2004 Nissan Murano
    By -

I bought this car used last year with relatively low miles for an 04, 42K. Problems: gas cap wont open - I finally just broke off the piece that locks the cover. Window rattles when down and radios is on with bass. Half of the stereo channels go out when you hit a bump and are playing a CD. Cant push defrost button in cold weather, only option is floor & defrost. Rear caliper went bad, ruined rotor, brake job and rotor and caliper with a warranty still cost $500. Now its in the garage for problems with the front end when turning. Also have rear latch that works sometimes sticks most times. Very, very disappointed with the quality. Friends all said get the Nissan, should NOT have.

One of the best cars I ever owned was a Nissan Maxima. While a very different type of vehicle, the Murano offers the same responsive and well built qualities that my Maxima had. It is a pleasure to drive, and is very sure footed in the snow. Unlike the previous SUV I just traded in, the Murano is all wheel drive all the time, so there is no shifting to 4 wheel drive and grinding when backing up or turning at slow speeds. The Murano is smooth and responsive. The radio controls on the steering wheel. automatic lights, and others features are nice touches. Instead of trying to jam in a cramped 3rd row of seats, the Murano has spacious and comforable rear seats with plenty of room for 3 people.

  • My Rano - 2003 Nissan Murano

When shopping for a new "ride" we happened upon the Murano. Talk about an eye catching magnet. After test driving the Murano, well the rest is history as it now has 12,000 miles on it after a little over 8 months. I love my Rono and my kids do as well. My son is in parent taught driving lessons therefore he gets to experience the handling of it as well and says Mom, this car (drive one and you will see why we call it a car) is awesome!!!! In driving home from the dealer I found on my way from the dealer the stability of handling was alot safer feeling. I love this SUV

This is my first Nissan and I am very impressed. Very nice features and the build quality appears to be outstanding. The ride is very comfortable. The interior has a nice fit and finish. I traded in a BMW for this vehicle and I found that the Nissan has more features and comfort. It is a very attractive vehicle inside and out. I would recommend this vehicle for those looking for a sport crossover. I could not find anything that could beat this, let alone at the price.

  • Best Kept Secret-Nissan Murano - 2004 Nissan Murano

I dont know where the "power sapping" is coming from because the SL 4WD steps out real nicely and gets outstanding MPG for an auto of that size. Nissan scored with this one and I dont think there will be a lot for re-sale down the road.

  • Exquisite, Smooth, Powerful Ride - 2004 Nissan Murano

Ive put over 10K miles on my new SL Murano, and without a doubt it performs flawlessly whether in the city, suburbs, or open interstate. It is nibble and responsive. The fields of vision are impressive for a SUV and it is a vehicle fun to drive. I have a new 911 Porsche Carrara and driving the Murano gives more delight than the Porsche. Go figure!

So far, there have not been any problems and the unique styling has been interesting reactions. We find the Murano to be very fast for a suv-wagon type car. Dont reall y agree with Consumer report that the vehicle is being robbed of power. It has got to be one the most fun to drive vehicles around. Use of the 2nd gear for passing makes a very fast pass. Holds the road great. Stiff ride smooths at 60+ mph.
