This Year's Model Updates:

A 20th Anniversary edition includes the 227-horsepower version of the standard 3.0-liter V6 from the Infiniti I30, as well as goodies like bronze-lensed headlight covers, a body kit, ersatz carbon-fiber interior trim, drilled metal pedals and a number of features normally optional on the SE. This special model also gets an exclusive color: Majestic Blue. A new Meridian package is optional on all Maximas, bundling side-impact airbags and a low washer fluid indicator with heated front seats and side mirrors, as well as special trunk lid trim. Adding optional traction control to the SE or GLE results in a Z Edition Maxima, for some zany reason.

Pros:
  • Silky and powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, room for the whole family.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

Very expensive to repair. Complete brakes over $1000, Alternator $1000, Check engine light, coil, o2 & Knock sensors $1000 and counting. Clock to small and located in the wrong place, Small trunk, seats tear easily. Cant get sticker with check engine light always on.

Good car, poor dealerships. Ride is too firm for passengers but road handling is excellent. Fuel economy is very good, city and highway, even with regular gas. Every accessory still works.

Since I bought the car off lease have had a series of problems. Catalytic converter went bad, Abs sensor went bad, exhaust pipe went bad, CV joints had to be replaced. Had to invest too much money fixing the car. Will never buy a Nissan product again. Their cars have a nice look but are not reliable.

Complete confidence is what I feel each time I crawl under the steering wheel of my Maxima. I have 92,000.+ miles on it, and it is still in superb running condition. The only repairs Ive needed to make have been routine, i.e., tires, brakes & battery - thats all. I would always recommend Nissan.

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima GLE. I bought it brand new and havent had any problems except for the driving belts which onl cost $110. Horsepower is great and the car is very respnsinve to the pedal. Overall i give this car two thumbs up.

  • Happy at first, but only at first. - 2001 Nissan Maxima

I was happy about a year ago when I bought the car with 22,000 miles on it. I thought the car was very comfortable , powerful, and looked great. After a while I noticed the suspension was very noisy and the brakes were grinding and squealing. Well, after 4 different shops and finally going to Nissan I finally had quiet brakes and rotors $750 later. A Week later a wheel bearing went (also costly). Then the windshield starting leaking, which has now discolored the headliner and now sometimes the car acts as if it doesnt want to crank like the starter is going to die. Now the check engine light is on. The leather seats are also cracking after taking excellent care of them!

Bought new and now have 185,000 miles. A great car to own that has never left us stranded. Other than needing front rotors every 20k miles, it is a very low maintenance car. A few of the dash lights work when they want to and the check engine light stays on from time to time. Dealer says no car throws a check engine code more frequently than this generation of Maxima but not to worry about it. Interior has held up amazing despite my now 7 year old. Rust is starting around the rear wheel wells so we are shopping for a new car. Prefer to stick with Nissan since this car has been so much better than my BMWs.

  • Best Car Ive Ever Owned - 2001 Nissan Maxima

This is my second Maxima. I cant say enough good about this car. It has been reliable and fun to drive. The interior and trunk are roomy, and the little conveniences like sunglass holder, spacious console box for CDs,extra backseat drink cup holder and power plug make a real difference on trips. The cars power is a big plus when merging in traffic or handling congested but fast-moving freeway driving. I have been pleasantly surprised by gas mileage.

  • Love the maxima! - 2001 Nissan Maxima

I am on my 2nd maxima, having had a 1998 model for 3 years, I moved to the 20th anniversary SE model. Ive never had a problem mechanically with the car. The car has been reliable through two winters. Dealer service has been top notch. The 2001 SE model is quick and agile. Its roomy (fits my 63, 240lbs) and comfortable. The trunk is spacious. The leather seats are very comfortable. The audio system sounds great. The car feels safe and powerful on the road, even at speed. If I were to pick one thing to complain about its that the moon roof was not optional in the SE trim line and that means a loss of an inch or two of head room - something that matters for me.
