This Year's Model Updates:

A 20th Anniversary edition includes the 227-horsepower version of the standard 3.0-liter V6 from the Infiniti I30, as well as goodies like bronze-lensed headlight covers, a body kit, ersatz carbon-fiber interior trim, drilled metal pedals and a number of features normally optional on the SE. This special model also gets an exclusive color: Majestic Blue. A new Meridian package is optional on all Maximas, bundling side-impact airbags and a low washer fluid indicator with heated front seats and side mirrors, as well as special trunk lid trim. Adding optional traction control to the SE or GLE results in a Z Edition Maxima, for some zany reason.

Pros:
  • Silky and powerful V6 engine, sports car moves, room for the whole family.
Cons:
  • Odd styling details, high price, rough ride quality with SE suspension.

For the price you pay for the car, it really makes it worth every penny you paid for the car. The bonus is that you are driving something that is almost in the realm of the 3-series or the C-class. Not too many are out there in this price range that exists. Like the General Maximus (aka Maximas) those can try to ignore its existence, but in the end it will win back its rightful place in the automotive world.

Great car. Very quiet interior. Powerful V-6 even at 222hp. Handles better than expected for a full size sedan with 4 doors. Excellent room inside. fits four adults easily. Steering wheel radio controls. Big trunk. Seats are form fitting, but could be a tad "cushier". HUGE storage with FOUR areas for drinks, cans, cups etc....and holds them secure!! Huge center storage for CDs to even stand upright. Would easily buy the same car again.

I originally purchased the car because I liked the style and supposed reputation of Nissan. My car had only 19000 miles and looked in mint condition. It was an off leased vehicle from a Nissan employee, at least that is what I was told. It was purchased from a Nissan dealer thinking they would stand behind their own product. As soon as I got it home, it started smoking white exhaust.Without going into all the boring details I finally got a new short block from the dealer, but not without threatening to sue them. Neither my dealer nor Nissan treated me with any respect and will never purchase another Nissan product, especially from Ft Wayne Nissan. Will go back to a reliable brand Toyota.

Purchased new w/Infinity all-leather interior. 130K miles. I take good care of it. Still looks great w/a few minor paint touch-ups. Wonderful car for the S.W. and high-speed touring. Good power/weight ratio. 21 mpg city, 28 highway at 80+mph. Unmatched visibility for touring and safety. Roomy inside and comfortable rear seat for passengers up to 6 tall. Great driving car with ample power. Good human factors design for driver - everything obvious and handy. Replaced all 4 O2 sensors, starter, radiator and alternator between 105K & 120K miles, front camber kit and rotors are due. Regular maintenance w/synthetic oil. Altogether a great car thats fun to drive w/a lot of good miles left in it.

The 01 20th Anniversary Special Edition is a wonderful vehical inside and out, including the mechanical parts. Nissan builds wonderful cars and the safety features are great. The car rides just as you move the steering wheel and stops on the dime. No hesitations! This is my second Maxima, previously owning a 95. The bang is not as strong but it drives just as well. I feel extremely safe in Maximas. The 95 Nissan was my first car, I thought I was in the Indy 500 and should have been dead 3xs. However, have been driving the Maxima saved my life.

  • Decent car but with mixed reliability - 2001 Nissan Maxima

I bought the car with 64K miles on it, now have 99K. Mixed reliability. Non-major problems indlude: STAINLESS STEEL exhaust has needed replacement. Brakes worked on 3 times. Suspension is on it last leg, but that isnt surprising at near 100K miles. Leather seats are cracking and peeling. Bose sound system is pretty much shot now and needs to be totally replaced according to the dealership. On the plus side, the engine/tranny combo is smooth and powerful. Major mechanicals (engine, trans, etc.) reliabililty has been rock solid. Front and rear seats are VERY comfortable. As long as the major mechanicals hold up, no plans to sell this car any time soon despite the constant minor repairs.

  • A great built car - 2001 Nissan Maxima

Ive had the car for about a month now so I havnt really had the chance to experience problems. But I know that the maxima is a great built car because my mother has an infiniti I30.The maxima and the infiniti I30 have the exact same engines and many of the same features and components since infiniti is a branch of nissan. She has plenty of mileage on her car and has experienced almost zero problems. As for the maxima,I love it.Its roomy, fast, and offers many great features. It is one of the best cars I have driven and think its a well priced car for what you get.It is an all around great car. I definitely recommend this car to anyone.

I was in the market to buy a luxury car. I was looking at buying a Lexus and brought home the Maxima. I test drove the car and fell in love with it. Considering everything that you get in the car, its a great value for your money!
