Overview & Reviews
All Altimas receives exterior styling enhancements, including new smoked headlamps and taillights, new wheel designs and a restyled front fascia and grille, along with a much needed interior redesign. The 3.5-liter V6 gets five more horsepower and three more lb-ft of torque, for a total of 250 and 249, respectively, and is now available with a five-speed automatic transmission. A new performance-oriented SE-R model joins the lineup along with a leather-lined 3.5 SL model. A newly optional DVD-based navigation system and two new exterior colors round out the changes.
- Sports car power in a midsize sedan body, excellent handling, roomy and comfortable interior, high level of features, distinctive styling.
- Considerable road noise, overboosted steering, no stability control, ABS still an extra-cost option.

Unhappy with Nissan - 2005 Nissan Altima
By Erin - February 12 - 9:06 amThis was my first Nissan and I have been very disappointed with the car. The brakes rotors and all went at 40,000, I have replaced the tires all the way around twice Nissan told me that the tires that they put on the car were garbage. They recalled the car for the crank shaft sensor and also had to replace the fuel pump. Yesterday, I noticed it was leaking a small amount of antifreeze. I am looking into buying a Honda or Toyota within the next week, I am afraid that this car is going to be a money pit.

Engine Wont Last - 2005 Nissan Altima
By Rob - February 12 - 9:06 amLoved driving the 3.5SE...for four years and 67,000 miles. Then the timing chain began whining. Nissan covered the $2,400 repair since it was a known issue (see Technical Service Bulletin). 8 months and 12,000 miles later, I noticed my oil level was low. Seeing no leaks, I tracked the oil level over the next couple of months. At 89,000 miles, dealer determined that engine was burning 1 1/2 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles! Offered to replace engine for $6,600 my cost. Nissan refuses assistance since they already took care of timing chain (to me, kind of irrelevant now). This on a car with all scheduled maintenance receipts. Better have an extended warranty or dump car before its junk.

My Third Altima - 2005 Nissan Altima
By Steve-A-Reno - February 9 - 6:53 amThis car is easy to get in and out of. Very roomy. Performance and handling are best in class. 5 speed auto very smooth. Ride is nice but a little bumpy on rough roads. Lots of features for the money. This is a practical family sedan that will also satify a persons craving for performance. Long trips with winding curves with this car is great!

zooming - 2005 Nissan Altima
By attykim - February 8 - 10:00 amI love the body style over the other cars in its class. I would definitely recommend the Bose radio instead of the standard radio. I checked out the leather and its really not all that, so I got the fabric seats instead...so far so good with the car. I do wish that i bought the V6 instead, although the mileage is much better on the 4cyl.

love IT! - 2005 Nissan Altima
By kem - February 8 - 12:50 amI have owned my 2005 Nissan for 2 years now. I absolutely love it. The gas mileage is great. I have not had any problems with the vehicle. I have not need anything done to the car maintenance wise. The car is comfortable and roomy. I get about 20 mpg in the city with frequent stop and go and about 27 mpg on the highway. My husband is able to sit in the back seat comfortable with room to spare he is 64". Overall it is a very roomy car, a great value, very reliable, very comfortable, and great deal for the money.

Cure For The common Car - 2005 Nissan Altima
By 2005T-Rex2.5S - February 5 - 8:23 pmThe 2005 Nissan Altima is different from the other mid-sized cars. It feels like a sports car. It has a great sound system, and great sounding 2.5 l I-4. The example that I own is a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5S with a 4 speed Automatic transmission. It has an base MSRP of 19,500. My example has an MSRP of 23,000. The transmission shifts at just the right moments, however the shifts are very noticable. The interior is all new, and Nissan did a wonderful job with the interior. The plastics are high quality, and the design does not look cheap. The engine has 175 hp, and can make it to 60 mph in an average 7.5 seconds from a standstill. As the sticker on the car says "Cure For the Common Car".

exceeds expectations - 2005 Nissan Altima
By new to nissan - February 4 - 7:26 pmThis is my first time owning a Nissan and I had a great experience from the start with the dealership, they had great financing options and discounts that made it possible for me to purchase the Altima. Overall the car is very comfortable, the first weekend I had it, we took it on a 5 hour trip with no problem and the gas milage was great considering the size of the car. It is sporty and roomy, which is what I was looking for. The interior controls seem modern, but not complicated. Overall I feel like I am driving a car that is in a luxury-class

This is the first car I have ever loved! - 2005 Nissan Altima
By Susan M. - January 6 - 8:56 amThis is the first car I have ever loved and Ive had quite a few - VWs, Oldsmobiles, family Cadillacs, a Fire Bird and a BMW. The were all just modes of transportation before I got my Altima 3.5. This car is so powerful, instantly responsive, comfortable and fun to drive. Even after having it for over a year now I still look forward to driving it, ever time I get in it. I used to hate driving long distances (two or more hours) but now I look forward to it.

First Foreign Make and I Love It - 2005 Nissan Altima
By Bill - January 5 - 1:20 pmWent from a series of 6 cyl automatics (Grand Am, Skylark sport) to this Altima with a 4, and it goes just as good, feels just as solid and is easier to get in and out of. Nice styling without being overdone. Might have gone for the 6 cyl if I wanted to spend more. I test drove the 6 and it flies, almost too much power. Make sure you know how to drive if you get a 6... but the 4 has been just fine for safety passing, highway merge and the like. No regrets except for the pride factor, as engine size is displayed on all vehicles. Might still get one someday and cede the 4 to the wife :)
