  • Horrible mistake - 2001 Nissan Altima
    By -

I bought this car after my very reliable Buick Skylark bit the dust. Id owned an old Honda Accord (1990) before and thought Id return to a Japanese sedan after growing up in Datsuns. A Datsun, this aint... Instead, it was a horrible mistake. In the span of 1 year (2009), I put front brakes/rotors, exhaust/muffler, an intake manifold gasket (INCREDIBLY expensive repair for a $10 gasket-- $750), a battery, and an oil pan gasket and oil sender unit. I literally poured over $2500 into this car, and thats without my boyfriend helping me out, as he sells parts for GM and could do some of the repairs independently.

  • 2001 Altima SE with all the wistles - 2001 Nissan Altima

I have 32000 miles on the car. Engine is powerfull. I usually cruise on highways at 80-85 miles an hour, and there is never a problem to accelerate higher. Suspension is stiff and well balanced. Joy to drive on the twisty roads. Sound system is great, 6 disks in dash is a pure pleasure. Seats (I have leather) are very comfortable. Lumbar support is useless - it is located too low and rubs agains your butt. I love the car and hope to keep it for a long while.

So far, Im really enjoying my Altima. Great AC (for New Mexico) and reliable. Easy to change oil and filters and beautiful engine. Go 2.4L!

  • Good car to commute! - 2001 Nissan Altima

I like that car so much. It has 143k miles on it, still no gasket and/or transmission problems. Besides, it is a great DIY car. There are bunch of videos on YouTube about that car, and the replacement parts are not expensive. Installing the replacements are easy as hell! I have driven that car non-stop 450 miles. The only I would concern about that car is the gas consumption. It consumes a lot for a 2.4 4 cyl car (16/22mpg). You have to be aware of a point: 98-99 and 00-01 altimas are not completely identical (the interior as well); some of the replacements are different, such as shocks.

  • 2001 altima OK - 2001 Nissan Altima

I HAVE HAD MINE FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR. BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION. STABILIZAR BAR AND BUSHINGS SEEM TO BE WEAK ON THIS CAR. OTHER THAN THAT, ITS FUN TO DRIVE AND PRETTY QUICK OFF THE LINE. TOP CHOICE FOR ANY DRIVER. PRICE WAS RIGHT ON TOO.

  • Just OK - 2001 Nissan Altima

I purchased this car used in 2004. Dont get me wrong, I do like this car but I have been a bit disappointed as of late. I have always taken care of my cars, but I feel like in the past few years Im always taking this thing in for maintenance. I know this car is getting up there in years (I also have 75000 miles on it) but I feel like Im always taking time off from work to get this and that repaired. Mind you, I do routine maintenance and treat my car well. I am disappointed that I cant trust this car as much as I would like to. I highly doubt I will be buying another Nissan.

  • My Second Altima and Sixth Nissan - 2001 Nissan Altima

This is, like I stated, my second Altima. I love the entire Nissan product line. The 2002s are just simply awsome!!! However, with my budget the 2001 is more affordable. I also have had a 2000 Sentra and a 97 Maxima. Both of which gave me nothing less than perfect service!

Great reliability, only issue is this is my third and there a lot of squeakes and rattles.

  • Best Buy in the Mid-size category - 2001 Nissan Altima

I bought this car privately in 7/02 with 7,000 miles. It now has 52,000. It is a dream drive anytime I get in it. Recently, my wife took a job that requires 150-200 miles of driving daily so I turned it over to her and bought an 04 Dakota (awesome, too). SHE LOVES THE ALTIMA!! One problem, though. Her company is now insisting she drive a company car (Jeep Liberty). She is very upset that she has to give it up! I would definetely buy another 00 or 01 Altima. I would avoid the 2002 & up as they are very hard on the eyes (ugly).

  • Think twice before buying this used... - 2001 Nissan Altima

Had this car for close to 5 years, just paid it off and glad I did. As mentioned in other reviews, the hubcaps rattle, there is significant wind noise, gas mileage isnt great (24mpg highway) and the ride is stiff. The seats are a tad uncomfortable and become moreso on long drives. Had to have all 4 window motors replaced under recall, then had the intake manifold gasket replaced at 63K miles ($600 job and apparently a known problem with Nissan Altimas, but not subject to recall). All that said, this has been a very reliable little car. The 4-cyl engine coped fairly with driving the Virginia hills towing a U-Haul trailer and does okay otherwise.
