This Year's Model Updates:

All M-Class models get an interior facelift available in one of three new colors, optional third-row seating and a Touch Shift automanual transmission. ML320 buyers get body-color bumpers and trim, real walnut inside, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, revised interior fabric, seatback map pockets and footwell lamps. In addition to these items, a standard navigation system, high-grade leather, and heated seats come on all ML430s.

Pros:
  • Lots of interior space, quite comfortable, carlike ride and handling, excellent snow vehicle.
Cons:
  • Poor reputation of build quality, looks like a minivan, not particularly adept off-road.

  • Love it when it is out of the shop - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

It is a smooth quiet car with fair gas mileage. Very comfortable and easy to drive. However, many many small things go wrong and fixing it is difficult, at least for my dealer. Everything turns out to be not covered. The window lever went out 4 times in the first two years, the radio/navigation system went out 5 times while on warranty and now I have a 2500 dollar box that isnt working. The oil light went on for 6 months and they couldnt figure out how to fix it. The key did not recognize me for three weeks and three trips to the dealer, etc.

    - Check engine light on all the time. The dealer can not "duplicate the problem" - Engine stall few times - Driver window sitch do not work - Low gas millage

  • Not bad at all! - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I have owned this car for 10 years now and i am still trusting it. It had some minor problem but so has every car. The only problem is the interior parts are not very durable. Little things like the door panel, handle, seat panel etc. Otherwise, it is a very reliable car. In fact, it is more reliable than my newer BMW 7 series. I will get another Benz because of the reliable engine and trans and the comfort, not sure if it will be an SUV but might consider the E class. the m class is pretty worth it for the price and re sell is not bad at all.

  • Awesome SUV - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

It seems strange to me that alot of these reviews are so negative about the M-Class. Other than a few minor problems (mainly switches and dashboard lights) my ML430 has performed admirably. It has impressive power and acceleration for its heft; the best qualities come out in high-speed driving. It feels very solid, and has that Mercedes vault-like feel. Also, it has cool styling that doesnt sacrifice function. Very luxurious and comfortable, yet doesnt have a real boaty ride like on some other SUVs.

Bought as a certified vehicle with 25K miles. Now has almost 100K and has been a pleasure. By far the best vehicle I have ever owned. Still as solid and smooth as the day I bought it.

Aside from a few minor fixes (rear corner glass piece cracks, etc - al taken care of under warranty) my ML has been great. Its relatively quick, sure-footed, and comfortable (keep in mind - I also own an Audi S4). Sure, it drinks gas like theres no tomorrow, but what would you expect from a V-8? I will be trading mine in for a ML500 in a couple of years.

  • Great to drive, but ... - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Responsive engine, fun autostick, reasonable gas mileage (if youre careful), wonderfully comfortable seats, great sounding stereo. But every six months its back in the dealer for something else, window switches (of course), rattles, CD, radio, paint (dealers fault). The build quality is dismal

  • all style, no substance - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I liked the styling and the Mercedes-Benz brand. I owned an E320 and thoroughly enjoyed it but my 2000 M-Class has been nothing but trouble. Ive spent $5,000 in 12 months on repairs, brakes, rotors, leaking seals, pumps, etc. Curently, it wont run without stalling and the dealerhip cant seem to find out what is wrong. Theve had it for four days!

  • The ML Experience - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I wanted an SUV that would last me for 10 years -- and up to this point, I admit Im a little worried. Granted, its only had 1 mechanical failure in 33k miles, but I have also replaced the brakes once. On the other hand, while the interior is a little dated, the SUV is built like a tank and is fun to drive. The ML430 is VERY peppy with the 24V V8. Would I buy another one? Thats the real question, isnt it? Yes, Id buy another one. The ML tends to get better each year I look at them.

  • Great SUV for MB Enthusiasts - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Ever since I saw Jurassic Park II: The Lost World, I have wanted the Mercedes ML. I think the gas mileage is superior to that of other similar sized SUVs. Out of all the SUVs I have owned (Blazer, Explorer, and Envoy), the ML320 by far has the best gas mileage. I average 19-20mpg in town and 27-58mpg on the interstate. If you own an SUV, do not compare the gas mileage to that of a sedan or coupe- obviously the fuel economy will not be as efficient. The spartan interior is a very simple yet elegant design; however, I do find the CD change in the rear a bit on the inconvenient side. Its stylish, comfortable, and a Mercedes; what more could a 24 year-old want. I would reccommend this SUV.
