This Year's Model Updates:

All M-Class models get an interior facelift available in one of three new colors, optional third-row seating and a Touch Shift automanual transmission. ML320 buyers get body-color bumpers and trim, real walnut inside, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, revised interior fabric, seatback map pockets and footwell lamps. In addition to these items, a standard navigation system, high-grade leather, and heated seats come on all ML430s.

Pros:
  • Lots of interior space, quite comfortable, carlike ride and handling, excellent snow vehicle.
Cons:
  • Poor reputation of build quality, looks like a minivan, not particularly adept off-road.

  • Mercedes Should Be Ashamed.............. - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Its apparent that the 2000 ML 430 is a lemon. I have gone on various sites and people from all over are having the same exact problems. The windows wont roll down, the doors wont lock, the brakes always need replacing, the exterior lights are always blowing, the power steering went out, the sun roof gets stuck, the interior is coming apart, and now when I stop at lights it cuts off and wont start for about 30 to 40 minutes. this happens at least once a week. From my understanding these vehicles were built in the U.S. If I wanted an American car I would have bought a Ford. Mercedes should do a recall on these vehicles. The repairs needed on the vehicle are more than its worth. Seriously!

  • solid, safe - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Safe and solid. Would purchase it again. After three years, the ML320 has been great. No problems whatsoever. Mercedes has proactively replaced some items under warranty during regularly scheduled maintenance visits. *Great* service in Texas; crappy service from HBL in Vienna, Virginia.

  • SHOCKED!!!!!!!! - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I cant believe the reviews on this SUV. Have driven the RX300 LEXUS and the MDX from Acura, the ML320 has them beat. First, it is just plain fun to drive. Then again the simple ergonomics and quality in the leather is amazing. Very quite and I am shocked at the many people I talked to who said this is a "trucky" feel to the SUV.For someone else in my category i.e. Third a must, quality in the ride, great sound system. Try a ML320.

  • Gotta luv it - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

We got a great deal on this ML430 with 6 months and only 6000 miles on the clock and a 100K Starmark. Better deal than any new purchase. Yes, weve had to endure the stupid small fixes: drivers window stuck down, back passenger door sticking, left side of drivers seat broke. BUT, this is one heck of a drive and we love it on our 400 mile trips to Jay Peak. We had Pathfinders before, which we thought were comfortable, but this ML430 gets us there in such a refreshed state (and with style) that we now realize how mcuh of our energy went into driving the Pathfinders.

  • My .02 (just sold my ML320) - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Our ML320 had several annoying issues which, while covered under warranty, did not meet my expectations of Mercedes Benz quality. The car is great to drive and has a wonderful interior, but here is my laundry list: failed emission test due to faulty sensor, GPS system ate a cassette and I had to pull the fuse to get it to stop chewing (even with ML powered off it kept going), MB replaced the entire GPS unit. Back seat rest inserts pop off when adjusting, back seat was stuck in down position (dealer had to adjust cables), High Oil light came on when oil was low (took 3 trips to the dealer before diagnosed also), moon roof air dam bar came off.

Like many ML320 owners, I have been frustrated over the last 3 years with numerous needed repairs. Early problems took away any new car fun. The dealership was very good about fixing the problems. My wifes 1998 E320 Wagon is a tank, few issues and superb build. It is hard not to lay the blame of the ML quality problems on the US based manufacturing. Still, the ML has not left me stranded, and if I could ignore the quality problems, it is a good size/design for my family of 5. Used it on several road trips. Still, I doubt I would buy another car made in America, regardless of brand.

  • 500,000 km and going strong - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Just reached 500,000 km and its still a reliable SUV. Body starting to rust, minor wear and tear repairs. Still getting the occasional recall notice.

  • SOLID MB - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Solid SUV, smooth ride and very comfortable. I dont feel like Im riding in a "tin" can like other cars. Its a fun SUV to drive. No mechanical problems.

  • No regrets! - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

After 7 years owning this Benz, I considered buying another car, but have doubts that anything could be as reliable, good looking and fun to drive as this one. If and when the day comes that I do buy another car, Im sure it will be a Mercedes SUV.
