This Year's Model Updates:

The ML430 is replaced by the ML500, which has a 5.0-liter V8 packing 288 horsepower. Over 1,100 parts of the truck have been modified, but the ML's exterior remains largely the same. New bumpers, clear-lens headlights and revised side mirrors are the most noticeable exterior changes. Inside, the center console sports a new look, and wood grain trim becomes standard on all models. A new automatic climate control system is now standard, and rear-seat passengers get dual cupholders and separate ventilation controls.

Pros:
  • Safe, comfortable, car-like ride and handling, surefooted in bad weather.
Cons:
  • Reputation for poor build quality, looks like a minivan from some angles, confounding COMAND navigation system.

My ML500 has been a great car. Overall quality is very good. I currently have just over 90000 miles. Only problems have been radio vol going up and down w/o cause. Fixed by MB of Albq. NM after about 5 visits. I have always been treated with exceptional care by MB of Albq. Also tranny went out at about 70K miles. Fully covered by MB starmark warranty. I do tow a fair amount about 2K pounds (motorcyles). Vehicle always tows well and is always fun to drive. I have taken on pretty rough 4x4 trips with no problems and not new rattles. I always appreciate my ML after driving other vehicles that are not MB. Fuel economy is not good but I get about 13 in town and 16- 17 hwy w/o trailer. Lots of pwr

9000 miles on a new 2001 ml320 has been uneventful. no service of any kind has been required.

Would like to see more convenient "handles" to help you get into the car (like the Navigator has).

  • Cool car - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I just brought the ML320 and i think it is a great car. Easy and fun to drive. I also have the SL500 and the Ml320 is more comfortable. Easy to park. Looks great in every color. Eats a lot of gas. oo the acceleration is not to great, you can push the accelerater down to the floor and the car will still go the same speed, it needs a few seconds to build up. Other then that i think its a great car.

I went with the sport package and put aftermarket 295s with lowenhart rims, looks great with tinted windows. The Nav system is great once you figure out how to use it. Bose is fair. The small radio and Nav controls are a friggin joke. They have to make the car safe because you stand a great chance of having an accident while you change radio stations. Ive had two service problems.Wish I went for the AMG to get the bigger engine.

  • POOR CRAFTMANSHIP - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I had my SUV for 3 months and been to deeler couple of times due to poor product design: First the astray failed and have to keep the car overnight co, they have to take apart the median console area. Second the driver side sealer pop out they to replace the section that hold the fancy mercedes name as you step in the car. But its fun to drive, the luxury feature are great then again it drink gas. Overall Im happy, as long little things will hold.

  • A NICE SUV - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

This is one of the safest SUVs available in the market. The 3.2L engine has sufficient power for most applications. Handling and ride quality are good for a truck with a body-on- frame design. Climate Control is very efficient but the sun sensor is a little too sensitive. Reliability has been very good with 12,000 trouble free miles so far.

  • Not your fathers Mercedes - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

The ML feels a little cheap and not as solid as what I expected. It does not have that heavy MB ride, and I do not feel swathed in luxury when I drive it.

  • Multifunctional - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

Bought new in 2002. I use my ML55 for towing, luxury driving, shopping, delivery, anything you can think off and have so far driven 175000 km trouble free. At times I drive it hard and I just love it, It definitely is a keeper. Engine is like a sewing machine. never a wrong beat.

  • Nice Mercedes - 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

This is a great vehicle. Its not a boat...easy to see, drive and park. Comfortable and very nice to drive. Has room for 7, but we took out one seat in order to get more cargo room...so make that 6+ cargo. Top of the line safety features, both on and off road.
