This Year's Model Updates:

All M-Class models get an interior facelift available in one of three new colors, optional third-row seating and a Touch Shift automanual transmission. ML320 buyers get body-color bumpers and trim, real walnut inside, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, revised interior fabric, seatback map pockets and footwell lamps. In addition to these items, a standard navigation system, high-grade leather, and heated seats come on all ML430s.

Pros:
  • Lots of interior space, quite comfortable, carlike ride and handling, excellent snow vehicle.
Cons:
  • Poor reputation of build quality, looks like a minivan, not particularly adept off-road.

I purchased this SUV second hand at the dealer last year. Purchased the extended warranty which seems to be paying off. it drives nice, looks good, and is fun to own. A little high on gas. Last years repairs, $1200 before warranty

  • Constant Nightmare-BEWARE!! - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Im appalled at the lack of quality of this vehicle. The shop owns my car.Its my part-time job to pick up and drop my car off at the service department when it isnt being towed. When I pick up my repaired car it always breaks down within a day or so.Ive been following up with MB-USA but dont bother. They send you right back to the dealership who coulnt care less about customer service-and Ive been to three so far!I would love to trade it in but it wont run long enough.Im trying to determine what steps to take to hold MBUSA responsible.Other car makers are completely aware so ML-320 owners are taking the hit on trade-in.BEWARE!!!

Vehicle is driven daily commute and hauls my bass boat. Delievered quality was good. Minimal maintenance has been needed. Except in snow, >9 in., vehicle goes with minimal fuss. It tries its best to keep you from doing stupid things. Driving position is generally good and seats supportive. However on long drives >6 hrs. could use more thigh support. length. More than adequate power to tow my 21 bassboat (~4200 Lbs. Combat Loaded). Heater/AC is acceptable but noisy at high fan speeds. Cheap interior plastics are a put down. Off Road activity has been acceptable but not rubicon capable. The lack of a full size spare tire is not good.

  • Expected More - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Overall the vehicle is a good buy if you are stepping up in class for the first time. However if you expect Mercedes quality in the M-class you will be disappointed as I was. Within the 1st year of ownership I had to return the vehicle to the dealership 3 times to fix small rattles, loose nuts etc. The breaks seem to wear more on this vehicle than any other that I have owned. Coming from a Ford Explorer I expected more from a Mercedes. If you have to go with Mercedes go with their cars, but as far as luxury SUVs their so-so.

When we first bought the vehicle the cd player did not work. Dealer replaced it under warranty. We paid $400 at the dealer (Mercedes Dealer) to install a trailer harness only to get it home and the harness did not work. My husband had to "repair" it for our trip. It seemed that every time we went to the dealer something else would stop working. Gave up on the dealer and have not had any other problems. Very happy with the vehicle now!

  • Good SUV but needs work - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

First good things. We had some long trips and Im surprised of its gas mileage. I get 23-25 on freeways going 80 mph. Good pick up, good interior and nice when you order all options. We have owned this SUV from new and still owning it (17 years). Key is maintenance. Now the problems. All I remember is I spent many weekends at dealers. They did the things they need to do but some problems werent addressed. For example my sunroof has been rattling ever since. Okay after warranty, I took over the maintenance. Oil change/ATF fluid/Coolant/Gear oil/brake fluid. Spark plugs. Dont believe what they tell you ATF fluid for life. Most of the problems are sensors which caused lights to come on. Engine valve covers leaked so I had to change the gaskets. I had to change a faulty crank position sensor which caused the SUV to shut down at stop, a YAW sensor which will brakes on its own, and a lateral sensor that leaves the infamous ESP/ABS light on. Battery drains fast through radio. Door switch have to be changed twice, and all door openers. Instrument cluster lights need changing as well. Things I have to bring to shops: AC and preventive water pump replacement. I can understand if you cannot do these things youll have to spend big bucks so only buy when you can deal with it.

  • You would expect more from M-B. - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

First experience with M-B., and a frustrating one, had to be taken to the shop at least 10 times in the past 2 and half years, and was helped by road side assistance at least 6 times more, excellent treatment everytime at shop, but please....for $40K you would expect more. Shame on you M-B, to have this black sheep among your other exquisite siblings...

  • I cant be happier.....I just sold mine. - 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Engine and transmition problem, electrical problem, window wont open, doors wont lock, lost power steering two times within a year, dealer charge me $1500 to replace a light bulb in the running broad, cracked rear side panel, change break pads three times in the first 30,000 miles, low feul light blinks and no dealer can fix it and many more.My EX-ML almost killed me three days ago when it lost its power steering. And I just fixed the power steering two weeks ago because I got a recall from Mercede. THE RECALL LETTER SAID THE ML CAN LOSE IT POWER STEERING SUDDENTLY AND MAY CAUSE DANGEROUS SITUATION. This really happened but after They FIXED the problem!
