This Year's Model Updates:

The E-Class sedan is completely redesigned this year. A more elegant body, along with more power for the V8 model and more luxury (including four-zone climate control and an optional massaging driver seat), bring the latest midsize Benz up to date. Last year's E-Class station wagon, however, carries over into 2003 virtually unchanged.

Pros:
  • Legendary solidity, effortless performance, state-of-the-art safety features.
Cons:
  • Firm ride for a luxury sedan, touchy brakes.

  • My first E class - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

One of the most comfortable Mercedes I have owned. As a shorter person in the past my SLK and CLK did not provide seating as comfortable as I would have liked. Some how the E class seating is very good for someone just over 5 feet tall. The engine is smooth and quiet and adequately powered. An interesting blend of conservative yet exciting styling.

I Drive 130 to 150 miles per day for work. My car is my Office. In past 4 years I have owned the following BMW M3,528 sport, Mercedes E430(2002), Lexus GS300 and GS430, Audi A4 3.0. In that order. All had there plus side, but obviously I was not completely satisfied until now. I have had the radio issues but that is fixable. This car is a keeper.

Test drove all its competitors, and this is clearly the best car in its class in 2003. Exterior is awesome, interior understated but classy. Handling is superb even in the "comfort" air suspension setting.

first MB. not overwhelmed by quality. hit bottom of fender paint off on ordinary curb. should be all rubber under front. temp. controls should be where stereo is access to CD player should be higher. too much road noise on concrete. Milage good even when new. awkward for six two guy to get into. looks sharp. desperate need for pro- tective covers over fog lights. they get broken by rocks quickly and there are no new replacement lenses avail- able anywhere, unbelievable!

Generally pleased but having wheel alignment problems that could be tire problems after two balances and two alignments. Otherwise ride is not as smooth as I would like but cant tell until I get this alignment thing cured. Watch the Continental tires!

When compared to the outgoing BMW 530i, the MB is a clear winner, with better comfort, similar performance, nicer cabin, and a much more modern chassis and drivetrain. The optional Sport package on the E320 includes the Airmatic suspension which is phenomenal. A real engineering achievement, it provides unbelievable good ride, while keeping the car flat and tight in corners. The Sport interior is also beautiful. Judging by the pictures, BMW has taken a real step back with their design of the new 5 Series interior. It is less clean looking, has too many "bumps" and curves and the switchgear looks scattered.

Beautiful car. A great looker, smooth ride, and effortless driving. All the traits that one would want in a luxery auto.

And most likely, my last. In the past eight months the car has been in the shop eight times for nearly 20 days. I broke my longstanding rule of never buying the first year of a new model and Im really paying for it now. Build quality is horrible. In addition, my dealers service center is the most disorganized and poorly run I have ever encountered. I miss my Lexus.

  • Falling Apart - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

We bought this vehicle about 2 years ago as certified used from dealership. We have been taking it in for repairs about 3-4 times a year. Head lamps have gone out a few times each. The radio quit working a few months ago-replacement costs $1,200. Warning lights go on about once a month for coolant level, brakes, lamps, etc. once every few months. The transmission is very jerky at low speeds. Interior trim pieces and outer roof strip are coming off. The engine/transmission noise while driving is loud and harsh. Interior truck lock assembly is falling apart.
