Model Overview:

A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.

Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

The car is beautiful and a real eye catcher. Fit and finish are top quality. However, since three months into ownership I have been plagued with false/positive alerts for brakes, coolant, and the auto climate control is hit or miss. In addition, my radio lcd display blanks out and above all if I dont shift into N or P after R, the transmission winds out and bangs into lower gear. This causes me to have to pull over and either re-shift into N or P or restart the car. Once the car is restarted, all systems return to normal. The dealer hasnt been able to correct and I am demanding an open-ended warranty or new car.

  • E500, Wow! - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I purchased my E 500 this past month. The ride is wonderful, insulating me from the dreaded potholes of Chicago. Acceleration is strong and build quality is excellent. Better than my BMW. Fit and finish is very precise and everything works as it should. This is a keeper!

  • Not quite my 911, but... - 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Maybe I have been driving SUVs for too long, but I was stunned by the outstanding performance of the E550 four matic. While this car is not as fast as my 911 4S, it is close. The large seats are extremely comfortable and the driver dynamic multi contour seat is a must. My three kids have no problem sitting in the deep, roomy back seats. After owning nearly ever other make of vehicle, I am impressed.

  • Great car - 1995 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

I bought this car used a couple of years ago and I love the versatility and the solid build of the car. I used to drive a Volvo and after driving a Honda and a Ford previously, I thought the Volvo was a pretty solid car; until I got the Mercedes. I feel totally safe in the car. It is pretty quiet as far as engine noise in the passenger compartment. However, there is some noise when going over rough road probably due to the echoing within the cabin (rather than being confined within a trunk like a sedan). My wife and I love the cavernous interior which allows us to do all sorts of shopping when needed. It is also a great car for road trips.

  • 2002 Mercedes E 320 w/Elegance Package - 2002 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

My first ever Mercedes. I am more than pleased with the car. I would caution buyers who are looking at buying a higher mileage car to take the car in for a transmission oil and filter change. Mercedes says it isnt needed, but mine did. Be sure to only use Mercedes-Benz transmission fluid. Older Mercedes cars are good cars for do-it-yourselfers who are willing to do the research to learn how to work on them. Internet makes this easy. Dealership service is expensive, but seldom needed. This is the best engineered car Ive ever driven or owned. The fit and finish is perfect. I was astonished that such an aparently heavy car gets such good gas mileage (22 city / 29 hwy).

  • Perfection with four doors - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The first time you dip your toe into the accelerator on this E55, you know you made the right choice. The engine howls and, if there is sufficient traction available, the car rockets forward. Leather quality is supreme. This is my third E55 and exceeds my expectations. I also drive an SL55 and the E55 feels tighter and a better handler.

  • A sturdy German Car, but overcomplicated controls - 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Everything you always wanted in a great driving machine, but riddled with confusing controls. Navigation system overly complicated and difficult to use. Sound system has not on/off button. You can silence it, but its not easy. MBrace is supposed to work for in car WiFi. Had the car for 6 months and still doesnt work. Trial period now run out. I live far from a dealer and they say I have to go there to fix it. Meanwhile no more trial period. So thats out. But, of course, MBrace keeps calling and sending emails trying to sell me subscription services. NOT.... until they show me it can actually work. Passenger seats sit low in the chassis and make it a bit clumsy to get in and out.... and Im not a weakling. Final negative is the "eco" fuel saving mode. It turns the motor off every time you stop and keep your foot on the brake. Then it automatically starts the car again when you hit the accelerator. Supposed to save fuel and put the car in a better "mileage" category. The system can not be permanently shut off, and it comes on automatically every time you start the car. Giant pain. Having said all this its a nice driving and handling touring vehicle with all the blood and guts of a tough German luxury vehicle.... and its quite comfortable. Dont think I would buy another one of this exact year and model.

  • E320 wagon - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

One of the better cars I have owned. Not as good as the 82 or 93 M/B sedans I purchased new way back when, but very good compared with what ever else is out there. Audi maybe the only other better car. I had an S4 Avant before this M/B Wagon and it was actually finished better, also much faster. The MB e320 wagon can acheive 28-29 mpg if you stick to 65-70 mph. Electric rear tailgate is a must!

  • Best car Ive ever owned - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

This is my second E-320. Both are fine cars, but the 2005 is clearly the superior machine. I think the best one-word description for this car is "precision". It is fun to drive and does exactly what I expect. In the first six months of ownership there have been no problems at all. Having suffered quality issues in recent years, Mercedes has returned to the high standards of old with a car which seems nearly bulletproof.

  • Beautiful car - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Very beautiful car to drive. very reliable. I only send it to the shop every 12000 miles for check up. No mechanical or electrical problem.
