Model Overview:

A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.

Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

  • Great Looking, Quirky! - 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Ex-BMW owner here. Since day 1. Wind noise at right rear window. Dealership had it for a week and couldnt figure it out. Really. Maybe isolated to just my vehicle, but very frustrating nevertheless! Great looking car, fantastic lines. Tons of comments from random people. Great interior and interior lighting. Decent if a bit bland on the driving attributes. Light but responsive steering. Inexplicable road hum from tires. Smooth hwy ride, substantial feeling, but at low speeds, occasional trouble finding right gear and can feel it. A few unacceptable and irritating squeaks and rattles already. Only have 1100 miles on the darn thing!

  • A great car so far in the first 1000 mi. - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This is very comfortable car. Lot of amenities and it feels very safe. The H-K sound system is outstanding. I have had it not long enough to make a judgement on its reliability yet, but so far it has been a great car. I took my friends out and none could tell it is powered by a diesel engine. The acceleration is exceptional and the handling are quite sporty. It is also a very quite highway cruiser (reving at 200 rpm at 70mph) and has plenty of power for passing.

My love for this car has had its moments. There is no ride like a solid benz. The acceleration and tranny is smooth and the motor is more than adequate to have a little fun. Super quiet ride and hard to believe it gets more than 22 mpg. The downside is it is over engineered. I spent a great deal of time and money combating the dummy lights. As I have 155k miles on my 420, these cars will run forever but be prepared to pay for it after 120k miles.

  • E320 - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This was the best buying experience Ive had in 45 years. The dealership was a pleasure to work with and made every effort to work with me. We traded in a 2002 BMW 525 because of the poor dealership and a lot of little annoying and missing features. The Mercedes E320 gave us all these little things we were disappointed about on the BMW at no extra charge. The Mercedes has an outstanding ride and handles as well as the BMW. We were also very disappointed in the new 2004 BMW 525 design. In conslusion, the E320 was a little higher priced, but, we didnt have to add anything. So, in the final analyis, it was not any higher priced. You get what you pay for.

  • Good performance, reliability disappoints - 1995 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Purchased model year 1995 E320 wagon in 2003 with 63,000 miles on it. Although it is a wagon, it drives like a sedan and is actually quite fun to drive. The cargo capacity cannot be beat. Primary issue is maintenance and reliability. Just about every part that can break has broken. Spent more on maintenance and repair than original purchase price. From overhauled transmission to the litany of sensors gone bad, this car is not any better than a usually maligned "American" car.

  • MB Does It Again! - 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

This is an elegant, thoughtful, well-designed and executed sedan. My chief concern in finding a replacement vehicle was safety. My wife and I were t-boned at high speed by a pick-up truck. It was in our 2010 MB C-300. Under the worst conditions MB design worked without fail. We walked away from the incident a bit shaken but unharmed. Our larger replacement vehicle is beautiful. The E-350 4Matic is understated but handles well with a CDI 3.5L V-6. It handles consistently, without any idiosyncrasies. Look at the AMG if you want a true sport sedan. We desired a comfortable, safe automobile and found it.

  • Bad electrical system - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Great car fun to drive. Lots of electrical problems, cant remember how many times I have had the radio repaired or replaced, still not fixed. Dont waste your money on this one.

  • Phenominal auto - 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Was looking for an older s 320 and saw this e 300 and fell in love with it. Smokers car with 145,000 miles in show room condition. Bought it on the spot and took it on a road trip the next day. Battery problem that the dealer made good, replaced all glow plugs within 2,000 miles and it runs like a top. It is a dream car, excelent in all areas. I subsequently bought a jag xj6 since my wife claimed this car for hers. Excellent car, value, investment.

  • Luxurious yes, but its no BMW - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

We decided we needed seating for 6-7, but didnt want an SUV. That left the E series and the Volvo V70. The E350 is beautiful, well-appointed and comfortable/luxurious. The suspension and steering, however, are softer than they should be, especially if you are used to driving a BMW with sports suspension (or even an Audi). The Volvo V70 R was sportier in power and handling, and had WAY better front seats (the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in, in fact), but was too stark/dark in the cockpit. Probably, upgrading to the E55 Wagon solves the problem, but for $35k more, thats insane. Come on Mercedes, make it handle more like a German driving machine!
