Overview & Reviews
A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.
Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

Rocket sled - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Attorney Scott - October 12 - 6:16 amI traded in a C6 Corvette because I didnt like getting pulled over every other day by cops wanting to eyeball it. This is much more discreet, until one notices the four tailpipes and V8 Kompressor badges. It corners more confidently in high-speed sweepers than the Vette did, and accelerates just as hard, even harder in roll-on acceleration. I notice other reviewers have given it high marks in fuel economy - not me, I average about 11 mpg.

Excellent - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By ktcotton - October 10 - 6:40 pmBought the E320 CDI to replace 04 BMW 530i. The difference in quality are amazing, for a $50k+ car the BMW is cheap and tacky inside. MB feels like it costs a lot more. Fuel consumption made me get the diesel, after test- driving both the gas and the diesel. The torque is stunning. Averaging 33mpg combined so far.

What a Mistake!!!!! - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Rick Groughlin - October 9 - 10:00 amAfter being with Lexus for 7 years, I wanted to try something different. I purchased a well-serviced E430 Sport, with 48K miles. Other than the minor issues, the ABS went out at 52K (common problem). At 58K, I thought I needed of a new transmission, but it turned out that I had to replace the transmission mounts, driveshaft joint, and a transmission sensor. For the 60K mile service, the car needed engine mounts and a power steering rack on top of the routine service. The result: No warranty = $4200 out of pocket. Right now, at 70K miles, the car is in for a rear main seal and A/C compressor replacement.

Replace Fuel Pump After 7 Years!! - 2007 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By ardot - October 6 - 8:52 pmSmelled gas inside vehicle after filling up, engine light came on, and the smell was extremely overwhelming with gas fumes. I had to roll all windows and sunroof down in 20 degrees weather. Contacted Mercedes Benz Atlanta on Piedmont (all records on file with up keep of vehicle maintenance) to advise. Took car for repaired and I am stuck with a $1400 repair bill. I was told by my service advisor that in 7 years the fuel pump goes out and has to be replaced? REALLY MERCEDES? This is a manufacture defect and the consumer should not be held accountable for something this major. So much for high end top of the line. This is certainly a defect. I want my check Mercedes! You should be a shame!

BIG GERMAN DISAPPOINTMENT - 1997 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By dr.falco - October 2 - 2:00 amMy 4th benz will be my last. OK styling. Enough power but with a noticeable acceleration lag. Even with all the auto gadgets the seats were not comfortable. A great geezer car but not much else. Trans went out at 60000.

Best car I have ever owned - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By anna - September 30 - 1:30 pmThis is the best car that I have ever owned! The ride is smooth. The weight of the vehicle makes me feel safe. I have had the vehicle for 18 months and it has been in the repair shop one time for an oil change. The overall size of the vehicle makes it easy to manuever in traffic. The sound system in the vehicle is awsome. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone.

Diesel for me - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Jon - September 29 - 8:46 amPricey, but very reliable, quick, and economical. On a road trip I averaged 35.0 mpg for a big heavy solid car. Just wish Benz, would put the diesel in a sport utility for sale in US.

A very disappointing car - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Frustrated Owner - September 27 - 2:00 amI bought this car on Mercedes reputation of quality. It turns out that it is the worst car I have ever owned. It has been in the shop 3 times and I have only owned the car 3 months! Even after all that time in the shop the car is still not fixed. The electrical systems on these cars is a disaster. DO YOUR RESEARCH before buying this car. Check the online forums dedicated to the E class cars and see what real owners are saying about their cars and how Mercedes is treating their customers - it is not a pretty picture!

Poor driving feel - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By jimwill - September 25 - 10:30 amThis is a handsome car but the interior trim is not well thought out. The door sills are a light colored fabric that is impossible to keep clean. They should have trimmed with leather or plastic that could be wiped off. The handling on an uneven road or with a small crosswind is poor. One must continually adjust the steering wheel to keep it on the road. Doesnt compare to my 1992 LS400. It feels like a small light sedan. The DVD furnished with the navigation system is out of date and incomplete. I asked it for the nearest hospital and it directed me to one 77 miles away when there were 3 good ones less than 30 miles away, one within a mile.

Mercedes Refinement and American Muscle - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Teflonman - September 23 - 6:13 pmThere is not much I can say that has not been already said about this car. Recap: Blistering acceleration (stock 12.5 quarter mile), Long distance highway comfort, and good looks for a sedan. The main draw for alot of people about this car is the ability to modify it north of 550 HP. Its easily done with a few add ons and a tune. It truly exemplifies class with muscle. I had mine at the quarter mile track and people were checking it out hard in disbelief that a sedan could haul like that. With the massive depreciation that Mercedes experience, you cant go wrong getting a used one and purchase an extended warranty. Its just the cost of doing business. ENJOY!
