Overview & Reviews
A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.
Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

Christmas tree - 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Not worth it - April 23 - 8:03 pmThis car has so many problems its hard to tell where to start. The common thread is the constant check engine message. So many pretty lights come on its like a Christmas tree lighting up. Performance and mileage are a disappointment. Ride comfort is not at all what I would expect. My wife refuses to drive it, preferring a Saturn with over 200K.

Vinyl vs Leather - 2009 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By dj - April 16 - 4:30 pmAddressing the vinyl vs leather for such expensive vehicles, please note that Mercedes has a long history of offering the best vinyl seating ever made, which is better than most cars leather. For some reason Americans equate leather with luxury. In Europe many of the Mercedes sold have cloth/velour seating. A final note on the vinyl, youll be very happy to have the vinyl 30 years from now when your E class interior looks almost as new. History and tradition are alive at Mercedes.

my benz - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By rob c - April 3 - 10:00 amGreat car love the design. Customer service has a lot to be desired (BAYSIDE dealership very shoddy at best). A good bang for the buck. Bought car certified and saved about $10000.

If only... - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By unmet_expectations - April 3 - 10:00 amThis car is a dream to drive and a nightmare to own. The cars basic mechanical functions have been flawless but its electronics and audio system are so buggy I need to hire an exterminator. Car has been in shop regularly and MB can not yet give me an audio system that works. They dont know how to fix the problems, by their own admission. $72K total out the door and now I know everyone at the service departments birthdays, anniversaries and pets names. Thanks MB.

E320 CDI is a joy - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By K Marvin - April 1 - 10:23 amMy E320 CDI (Turbo diesel) is a joy to drive. Mileage is amazing. A wonderful, solid feeling road car. Interior is miles ahead of BMW 535 and Audi A6. I drive 300 miles a week and I only get fuel once every 2 weeks! Navigation system is excellent as is the suspension. This car has been tweaked to near perfection. As promised by the dealer, cold weather starting is fantastic - 3 seconds of glow plug operation in 10 degrees and it starts faster that gasoline engines - WOW! My dealer, Leikin in Willoughby has been great. Mercedes is working very hard to make sure you love the vehicle and the dealer. Lots of surveys to insure satisfaction.

First Mercedes (and wont be my last) - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Mountainman - March 30 - 1:56 pmMy wife and I test drove a new one in 2001 and came away impressed but plumped for a (cheaper) Volvo Cross Country (since sold) instead. In the summer of 2008 I began searching for a clean used 2001-2003 E320 wagon I could park at our vacation home. Eventually I found a pre-CPO car in the rare Pewter/Oyster combination (only available in 2003) which I wasnt entirely sure about at first but have since grown to love. I have now owned the car for 9 months and Im very satisfied with my purchase and should I ever decide to sell I expect to recoup most of my (not considerable) outlay for this unexpected headturner.

Danger New Brakes - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By James Powell - March 29 - 10:00 amMB has brake problems and cannot stop but does not want to admit for fear of recall and bad press. Settling claims for bad brakes. Great engine, poor suspension as the air goes out and the car literally rests on tires. Mercedes acting like General Motors in letting first year models be the quality mules. Buy an S without these bad brakes. It is cheaper for them but is your life worth it?

What a blast - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By ivanson - March 23 - 2:00 amSmooth performance vehicle. Understated speed. I have the e500 sport seires. Black with charcoal interior with black maple trim and silver accents. Very aggressive and very fast. I have never felt as secure behind the wheel of a vehicle. Drawbacks- complex electronic settings- you need the manual and an excellent but somewhat quirky sterio system. It sometimes gets static and the wont turn off (temporarily)!

Highly impressed after 12,000 miles - 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By evan_s - March 19 - 6:51 pmI have owned the E350 sedan for a year and a half and alternate it between a 2009 S550 and a 2007 BMW 530i. I live in Costa Rica where the roads consist of endless pot holes and hap-hazard patches with undulating curves and steep inclines. The E350 has proven to be a very capable car and is the one I choose for the twisty mountain roads. It is not outright sporty, but extremely agile and confident on the curves and absorbs the rough surfaces without completely isolating the driver, no simple feat considering the coil suspension. The engine and transmission make short work of passing and climbing steep hills and the brakes dont exhibit fade on long downhill treks. Overall, highly impressed.
