Model Overview:

A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.

Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

Bought it brand new, first Benz! Platinum Blue, beautiful to look at.....if you drove by the dealership...cause that is where it was most of the time. Horrible reliability, bordering on lemon! Never again, the dream is over!

I love this car. If you find one in good condition, with low mileage. Purchase and you will understand. At least test drive it! 0-60 in 4.9 and plenty of room for the kids and groceries. High forged pistons and AMG engine quality. Much better then Mercedes Benz alone. Buy a car with 100k miles, and your buying an AMG motor that will last almost twice as long. Unbelievable gas mileage, computer states exactly 24mpg on the highway at 75mph!!! An aggressive yet subtle styling. Very wide 275/45 rear tires. Even the elderly notice these! Took it to the dealer once after it was cleaned up, and was very very happy to see a few sales people line up to the window to look at my then 6year old car

I bought the 99 MB E320, with 98,000 miles on it. I have owned this vehicle for over 6 years. Had to replace the AC / $1500.00, replaced the belt / $700.00..routine oil changes / every 4-5 months / $98.00 per service, need motor mounts, need electric work on brake lights, paint is severely peeled on top, front and back hood / paint job: $1500. But, as for the driving of the car? Well, I now have $219800 miles on it. It still drives smoothly, very powerful, very safe, handles extremely well. Yeah, it needs some cosmetic work, but, this is the most reliable, safest car that I have ever driven! I believe that with continued routine maintenance, I could drive it another 220,000 miles..easy

  • Whadabout da paint chips! - 2002 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Ive only had this car for about 4 months now but this car is great. I love the way it looks from the outside, but the interior could be better. The V8 is just right for me, but that doesnt mean that the E320 is weak and slow. I love this car. But am I the only person that notices how easily this car gets paint chips? This is my biggest problem with the car. I think the older models had more durable paint.

Weve only had our 320E for 5 months, (2400mi) and do not like the way the transmission downshifts at low speeds. Its as though someones putting on the breaks. Its a really odd feeling. Also, there is a hesitation starting off in forward or reverse. You have to make sure the "coast is clear" before entering traffic. The engine is louder than we anticipated. We really like the car, but these issues take the joy out of owning a Mercedes. Whats with all the break dust on the wheels? Seems like Im washing them every other day.

  • Great Car - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I bought this as an expired lease vehicle with 27500 miles. Was concerned at first as Consumer Reports stated reliability problems. After 5 months and 6000 miles, I can say without reservation that I love this car. To put this comment in perspective, my last car was a 528i BMW that was always in the shop. While the BMW was nice, the Mercedes is much more refined. Feel like a grown-up driving this car versus a 50 year-old in a midlife crisis when driving the BMW. No problems what-so-ever. Fantastic mileage. Beautifully designed. However, a few quirks as loud cold starts till lifters get lubricated. Also, the Germans likely show their contempt for Americans by poor design of the cupholders.

  • DISAPPOINTED E320 OWNER - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I purchased my E320 in 8/03 and drove about 15000 mi. My selection was based on appearance, test drive, competitors and MB reputation. So far I was in for 5 service visits for alarm short, stuck gas cap, battery short and at least 4 times for the transmission. All of the problems were addressed except for the transmission. In low speeds the car bucks and the transmission hangs up between gears. According to the dealer who was generally helpful, MB headquarters do not recognize a transmission problem as it is not a safety issue. Basically they do not know how to fix it. I guess that in Germany where they drive a stick, they do not care about US cars. My first auto, a 63 Tempest with 2 speed transaxle, had a smoother transmission.

Great car. Terrible computer system. Ive had 3 failures of the SRS in less than a year. Each repair taking an average of 9 days. Twice the entire system needed replacment, once they couldnt figure the problem. Factory denys that the SRS is an important safety feature and thereby denied my repurchase request. Beware of this car and of MBUSA...

  • Really Enjoyed the Ride - 2007 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

MBZ has costly repairs once out of warranty. Find a reliable mechanic comfortable with the brand. A pleasure to own, however.

  • Getting closer to perfect - 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The overall look of this vehicle and driving impressions are most favorable. The race to pack the cockpit with mostly useless distracting electronic features, however, is annoying to this driver and I would suggest redirecting that effort toward improving the weight to power ratio combined with better fuel mileage. Lastly, the Sports package , offered at no extra cost, provides a somewhat better ride and appearance profile---- but watch out for curbs and the like that tend to be higher than that ground spoiler!
