Model Overview:

A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.

Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

Good styling, good driving, excellent fuel economy

  • not like 1999 model - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The new one is smaller and much more plastic. Driver seat is comfortable, passenger is not. Sure, it has more zip but it should be called a 200 series as that is the size of the body. Nowhere near the space for passengers in rear.

  • Not that bad for a 10 year old car - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Okay, I read a lot of complaints about this car, but its not really that bad if you take care of it. Maintenance costs are fairly high if you dont know how to do simple maintenance yourself. Its not only the labor that is expensive if you have to bring it in, its also the parts. The best fuel economy Ive gotten on this tank is 27mpg driving from Minneapolis to Chicago in the summer. If youre trying to be frugal, dont buy this car. Otherwise, I pray every day that nothing breaks on it. Meanwhile, I really enjoy driving this E320 4matic. Just take good care of it, do all the maintenance in advance and itll run fine.

  • If you like the shop - 2002 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Having always wanted a Mercedes. I finally poneyed up the money and purchased a used 320 with only 37K miles on it. Since then I have been on a first name basis with my service advisor as I am bringing the car back to the shop almost every other month for different problems. Here is what has broken so far. Interior visors, both left and right due to the mirror covers hinge breaking (not covered under extended warranty) Catalytic converter at 70K. Ball Joints at 78K. Windshield washer resevoir (not covered $230). Instrument lighting. Entire radio. Voltage regulator. Most of this would not have been covered if I hadnt purchased the extended warranty. Too much for me. Back to Lexus

  • Best Car for the Buck - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This being my first MB I will focus on my reaction to car now that I have owned it for a month. All I can say is wow. What a nicely built, very solid, comfortable and fun to drive car. I test drove, BMW, Audi, Volvo, Infiniti, Acura and some of the lesser import brands but the E350 is bar far the best mix off all. The stunner is when you push your foot down on the gas and the car hauls to 60 in less that 6.5 secs. Even better is when you hit a corner and there is 0 wheel squeal. Return the car to center at a cruising speed of 70 MPH and its sublime. Simply put, this car fits my image. A bit reserved, but push it and the wild side comes out, but returns to civility just as quickly.

Enjoy driving it and hope to keep it for an additional 50,00 miles

  • E500 - 5 yrs later - Id buy another - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Bought the car new 5 years ago and now have 40k miles. Two minor problems fixed under warranty. What is amazing is the combination of performance, comfort and fuel economy. Highway is an easy 27mpg at 75 to 80 mph and yes, its the 500. Around town is 18mpg. So why the gas guzzler tax? Very comfortable and still looks virtually new. Main annoyance is noise from a pump for the brake system. Aside from that, quiet and dependable. Radio and in-dash CD player work and sound great, although the layout of the radio is a bit quirky at first.

  • Disappointed - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

After driving a 2000 wagon for 4 years and loving it I ordered a "new" 2004 wagon only to find the interior passenger room much smaller, the second row of seats are not as roomy, knee room tighter, the headroom seems to be lower, the 3rd row jump seat lost 5 inches head room due to the spare under the seat. I did not accept the car. I have been driving a Mercedes for over 40 years.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS MACHINE.FAR BETTER THAN ANY EXPECTATIONS I HAD SINCE I FIRST TEST DROVE IT FEW MONTHS AGO.ITS BROUGHT BACK THE JOY OF DRIVING FOR ME. SO FAR EVERYTHING IS PERFECT EXCEPT THE GAS MILEAGE-BUT ITS WOTH IT.

  • Why buy anything else - 2007 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

I have had my Bluetec for a little over a year, tons of power and torque. You could not guess you are driving a diesel. It is fast, quiet, luxurious, and most of all economical, getting 26 mpg around town and 32-34 on the highway. The $1,000 premium for the diesel over the E350 is worth it,( just look at resales between the E320 vs E350) test drove both with little to no difference in performance or comfort. Love the classic understated good looks, the pre-safe technology, and all the other safety features. Once I drove this car I questioned why would I drive any other car in this class ( test drove E350,BMW 528I, Cadillac STS, Infiniti M35, Lexus GS350).
