Model Overview:

A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.

Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

Car now has 10,000 miles. Has been at the shop 5 times. 3 check engine lights. I get same brake problem that everyone else has a problem with. Engine knocks and was told this is my problem due to California does not sell 93 octane gas. Rough starting in the morning. I have contact the dealer manager he tells me dont bother until the car has 12,000 miles. Mercedes direct says you have to get these issues resolved with the dealer. Has spent a total of 28 days at the dealer. Buy a M5.

Its a Chrysler. Did MB buy Chrysler out or the other way round?

  • My CDI - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I have owned diesels since 1977, starting with a 240 d. I managed to get a used (9000miles) CDI from my local dealer last month, they imported it from Ohio, because they cant sell diesels in Calif. The car is great except for the electronics. After having the car for only 2 weeks, the battery warning light came on, and it had to go back to the dealer because of a faulty sensor. We have had the same trouble with our 99 E430. Apart from this the car is great. Its difficult to get the 27 mpg in the city though

The suspension is supple and the ride is very quiet. The drive isnt exactly fun but it is engaging with solid feel and feedback. The exterior is elegant and gets nothing but compliments. However, the interior lacks the same prestige feel and the electronics are prone to failure. The electronics that do not break, are hard to use and annoying by design (navigation for example). So far weve replaced or repaired steering knuckle, rear sunshade, panoramic sunroof, windscreen seal, and other interior (except for knuckle) parts. Do not buy this car without extended warranty if you plan to keep it past 50K. I personally expected a bit more reliability from MB.

  • Multiple repairs on my E320 - 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Ownership experience has cost thousands more than the purchase price. I would not buy this car or another Mercedes Benz if I could have a do over. AC has been replaced twice. Control modules have been replaced. Sun roof had a terrible leak with multiple repair attempts. The sun roof would open on its own. The windows would go down on their own. The car alarm would even go off in my enclosed garage.

  • No More Quality - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This is a beautiful car that handles well and has a plush ride. However, Mercedes quality is nowhere to be found. This car has been in the shop about 2 dozen times in less than three years. Both rear windows have failed. Brake, oxygen, and fuel level sensors have been replaced. The dash cover cracked and the sun visor (cheap vanity mirror) has been replaced 4 times! Cheap center console has never worked properly. The console doors are misaligned, they rub, and sometimes will not close at all. Light bulb failures in dash (twice), headlights (twice, once fuse), and brake lights (twice). The latest problem is with an intermittent A/C fan.

  • Its not a BMW - 2007 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I leased my E350 because of a deal that I could not pass up. My previous car was a 2000 BMW 528 w/ sport package. My E350 includes the Nav system, Sirius radio, and rear shade screen, but no sport suspension. Overall, I like the car. I never thought I would own a Mercedes. The car rides very nice on the road, but you get a floating feeling if you try to push the handling through turns. Power is more than ample and it gets relatively good gas mileage. I have got a supension squeak that occurs every time I get in the car when the car is cold. The dealer cannot seem to find, but I will give them another try. When this lease is up I will go back to a 530 BMW for better handling.

A wonderful auto in most ways, well built and great on the road. Better gas mileage than expected.

  • Very satisfied - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This car envelops you with luxury like very few cars can. The interior looks hand-made, and the controls have a pleasing action and response. I was turned off when I first saw some posts regarding reliability problems with this model, but after checking the first owners service records I didnt see anything to worry about. Since then Ive only had one major issue (air-ride failure) which was covered under warranty. This car has so many unique and complex features, its bound to spend some time in the shop. That shouldnt stop you from experiencing E-Class ownership.

  • Its the Little Things That Hurt - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

I had always wanted an E-Class Mercedes -- until I got one. Dont get me wrong: The car was beautiful and stylish. It is unfortunate that there were so many part defects such that it needed to be in the shop for about a dozen times over the three years that I owned the car. On top of the defects, the parts were continually replaced with the same defective parts, causing the problems to reappear every so often. Problems included the back windows getting stuck in the down position, the A/C breaking, the radio (which was supposed to increase in volume as your speed increases) would change volume wildly, and more. Very disappointing.
