Model Overview:

A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.

Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

This is my 4th Mercedes, my 3rd diesel. Wow, they got this one right. Its powerful, reasonably quiet, dead simple to maintain, and the parts arent bad at all. Bought her with 235k on her, and did ball joints, tie rod ends, brake line ends, and an epic cleaning. Changed the oil and coolant several times, cleaning out the sins of the previous owner. Ive put 10k miles on in 6 months, and nothing but smiles. I hit 40 mpg on a 800 mile road trip in October, and nailed 41 mpg on a 400 mile trek later that month! The daily commute gets 36 mpg in the summer, down to 31 in the winter. Shes big, shes bad, shes comfortable, and the wife even likes her. Worth the steep price.

  • Lousy reliability - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Car had 22000 miles and manufacturers warranty (never wrecked, dealer serviced, full records). Cant find a better more solid feel in a midsize but the reliability is horrible. Everytime I crank it up I hope the radio works correctly. MB uses soft plastic, not hard, designed to break. Visor vanity covers break off routinely. Dont pull on seat backs, they will break off in your hand. Catalytic converter broke. Key system is horrible, locks are stiff and keys are skinny. Will buy American made Lincoln next time.

  • Why did I wait so long? - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

After waiting to compare the new BMW 545 to the E500 and other also rans, I went with the E500 and have not been disappointed. No quality issues with mine. Very few nits to pick on. Performance is OUTSTANDING, unless the 5.8 sec 0-60 isnt good enough for you (go E55). The three position suspension is very handy - dials in the three settings I like (cruising, everyday, and attack). The 7 speed is a joy, and the comfort/style is timeless. The headlights are great, always eliciting delight from passengers. Seats (adaptive) are spectacular. Seat/steering wheel adjustments combine for the best ergonomic setting possibilities Ive seen in a vehicle.

Parts are very expensive. Check carfax and maintenance records or you will regret buying an used car. Edmunds sucks on costumer service. They never Send me the 100 dollar visa card for using Edmunds. Never replied to my emails or phone calls.

  • Good:But Lexus is just as good. - 2002 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Overall, the car is fun to drive and very comfortable. Performance is good and interior design is not bad. The front is very attractive but the rear I dont like as much. Looks too much like a box from behind.

  • Sleeper - you wont see another - 2008 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This is the ultimate hauler. I use it for my daily commuter car and weekend trips with family and dog. Why get an SUV when this does it all. Looked at the Porsche SUV - but it had less room and was not as fast. Handles fantastically, but no too jarring unless the handling set on hardest setting. The best part is I will probably never see another one going the other way on the road.

  • Outstanding Mercedes! - 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Just turned 140,000 miles. Fabulous car, super reliable. The key to buying a great used MB is the service history. I have had many MB products, history is everything. If you buy from Sam and Louie down at the corner and no one knows anything other then the price...well good luck. This is one of the best cars built by Benz. 10yrs and 140k and she still looks and drives great. No repetitive issues, replaced crank sensor (about $250) just that and normal service. I highly reccomed these cars....but know its history!

This car has it all! Style, power, comfort and best of all its a Mercedes. I drove the BMW 5 series before buying this car and they honestly dont compare. After driving this car I know I will be a Mercedes owner for life! Even the fuel economy on this car is great. I have 13000 miles on mine and have not had one problem. I reccommend this car to anyone looking for a stylish dependable fun to drive car. Its the BEST>
