Model Overview:

A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.

Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

  • Beautiful but Fragile - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I have owned several Mercedes during my life time and I can telll you this has been my worst experience with MB. Three blown tires, broken A arms, broken subframe, bransmission issues and not to mentioned expensive parts and repair costs. This vehicle was made to be driven on air not on realistic day to day roads. I will not recommend this vehicle. Very beautiful but fragile!

Decent car and works great for what its required for.. would have appreciated if MB had paid more attention to sound insulation . esp. after driving a V8 GL 450 gor the past few years, this seems to have a lot more road noise. The heatinga nd cooling seem to take a lot of time to kick in when compared to other luxury brands

  • Very reliable! 24.5MPG @ 245K Miles - 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Ive had no mayor problems with the car, the biggest job was a transmission service @ 177,000 miles. The car has around 245,000 miles and it runs like new. It smogs fine and it does about 24 MPG. I dive it every day and about once a month i drive to LA from northern californa (about 300 miles) and it feels great. It has some minor issues like a stereo volume knob that is worn due to normal use and like any W210 the original head gasket leaks around the front of the engine (cyl 1) which didnt cause any problems other than the leak itself which if you had warranty its fine if not its around 150usd for the gasket set.

  • Not too bad - 2001 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

While under the generous 4 year 50K mile warranty I had lots of problems including drivers side mirror falling off due to cheap metal. The rear door regulator, transmission leak, cup holder, power headrests (twice) motor, lug nuts rusted away, and battery. But since the warranty was over it has only been an H20 sensor and the Teleaid antenna broke off. The styling is timeless and the ride feels like in an electric car. The motor is smooth along with the ride. There are no child locks for the rear doors though. Uses synthetic oil that needs to be changed every 10,000 miles. It gets better the longer I seem to go. Expect about 18 city and 28 highway

  • Great Car Technology - 1997 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

I bought this car 1.5 months ago with only 67,500 miles and it drives great! Previous owner took great care of this car and it shows. Only basic maintenance required over a nine year period! I had this car thoroughly checked by a mechanic and myself on rack and was amazed at the great condition of this car. If you take care of these cars they will last for a long time. I plan to get 300,000 miles from this car.

  • Rating a used E300 D - second owner NC - 1995 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

E300D black with classic grey accents. Mechanically sound but had some problems at first with (95 new) feul line design (O rings problamatic). Smooth ride, great looks. Bought from Local dealer specializing in used MB dealer (20+years). If, like me, you not mechanically inclined, the key to success is to get a friend you trust to recommomend a mechanic that specializes in MBs and is honest. Never look back!

  • Jittery Transmission/ so-so performance - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

The transmission/power is not as smooth as any of my previous four E series MBX( or my wifes Volvo S80). Complained to dealer many times and finally one of the service persons told me they had complaints that the 2003 is not as smooth as 1997-2002 series. The problem seems to be in the torque converter. In the 2003 it has a lock-up for all gears. Previous models locked up only in high gear. The dealer upgraded the software. This improved the performance... cut down on herky jerky xmission. Still not as good as my 2001. The dealer told me the lockup does not drop out instantly causing the poor effect. They are going to check if there are any other factory suggestions.

  • Woeful Experience. - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Purchased my new 05 E-55 after having owned 3 problem free Porsche 996s. Initially I loved the car but quickly lost the attraction after the engine stopped running on a very busy local highway at rush hour. Car was towed in and repaired (loose wiring harness). Two weeks later my interior insulation filled with fuel due to problem with the fuel pumps. Left rear shock leaked and car would settle over the wheel when parked for a few days. Brakes squealed like a Yugo. The squealing brakes problem never stopped after several visits to MB service. Lost confidence in the product and sold the car. Done with MB. Without question the worst vehicle I have ever owned.

  • Worth It - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Im in Southern California. The 2003 Mercedes E320 is a pleasure to drive. Its the best car Ive ever driven. It handles well on curvy mountain roads (Angeles Forest Hwy). It feels heavy yet agile and solid. You actually look forward to driving while enjoying the awesome Harmon Kardon sound system. I have 5,122 miles on it now and no malfunctions/problems whatsoever. Brakes are hydro-electronic so it takes some getting used to when slowing to a complete stop. Smooth V6. 28 MPG on hwy. 19 city. Steering communicates road feel and conditions with tight turn radius. Seats are comfortable. I would recommend it to anyone.
