Model Overview:

A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.

Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

I have been very pleased with my E320 CDI in the year I have had it. My mileage has been between 33 and 35 mpg, and even higher on longer trips. The car has excellent pickup and is much better than the diesels I have owned in the past. The only problem I have had is that the clock in the dash gains a couple minutes a month and it is not exactly easy to reset. The dealer told me that this gain per month is within tolerances, but none of my clocks gained that much in the past. I have had one burned taillight in the year Ive had the car, and one recall to repair the computer assisted brake system. All in all, it is an excellent car.

Either Im the luckiest man alive or those germans really know HOW TO BUILD THEM !!.....This 4matic is coming close to 100k miles and so far no problems at all other than regular maintenance. Also this car is a BEAST in the snow w/artic alpines of course.

  • Works for me - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I love this car. After owning it for 2.5 years, its been in the shop once, for an oil change. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong. A very fast car with just the right balance between race car performance/handling and luxury tourist. Gas mileage on the highway going 75 mph with A/C on around 27 mpg and city around 16 mpg which is amazing considering the large fast engine.

  • This Car is Great - If you know what to Buy! - 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

I purchased my 1999 MB-320 when it was 3 years old with 12,500 miles. I have since driven is 217,000 miles. It is reliable, dependable and I get reasonable gas mileage. Mind you, this is the year when the Germans came to America to fix the MB American plant. The 1998 model was assembled by the Americans and was a total piece of crap. It broke. The 1999 had the same problems up to about April 1999. Then the Germans came in and straightened things out. So if you buy this used, carefully look at the date of manufacture. If it is prior to April, run! If it is after April, you have a good truck. Two problems to watch out for. The check Engine light comes on and the dealer wants $450-$700 to fix. This is a total rip off. The MB Bosch Mass Air Flow Sensor retails for $350. However, a cheap British Car uses the exact same Bosch Mass Air Flow Sensor as the ML and it can be purchased for $150. Twenty minutes with a screw driver and reset the computer and your Check Engine LIght problems are solved. One time I was traveling and the my car dies. Only one occurance. Wait a while and it was fine. Limped to my mechanic (car dies and then drives) and he replaced a $5 ignition part. End of Story. Buying a used ML I would talk to a good MB mechanic and id that part. He will know the culprit off the top of his head. Just replace it immediately. If you treat this car nice, it will treat you nice. Get good tires (Michelin). You can use cheap gas. The computer adjusts. You sacrifice some power, but you will catch everybody at the next light. This care likes to do 80. It hates doing 60. It can do 90 to 100 without any problem. So if you are out west, it is good on those long lonely highways. Take care!

  • CRAP - 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The most expensive junk I ever bought. Starting with poor delivery when the dealer scratch the entire clear coat and make it looks like two year old car. Sorry unless they were looking after me and they did it so I dont have to get upset when someone else will put a scratch on it. LOL. And now on top of it we getting all the recalls and the whole middle console broke. Great. DONT BUY IT.

  • Outstanding Vehicle - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I couldnt be more pleased with this auto. The advanced sound, control, navigation and safety features make this one of the best MBs Ive ever owned. A good value for the dollar.

  • Impressive - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I can not believe the power this vehicle has...much more than the 320e. Hope this diesel lasts the fourteen plus years and over 200,000 miles of the last one owned. You cant beat a diesel engine...now it is combined with luxury!!

  • Exceptional car except... - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

I love this car especially since it consistently gets between 29 and 30 mpg at highway speeds of 75 with the A/C on. One complaint I have is the extensive use of cheap plastic. The plastic vanity mirror fell off of the plastic sun visor in the first year. The plastic center console latch stopped working this month. I also get mysterious electronic malfunctions periodically (3 - 4 times per year) for the ABS and BAS. The malfunctions seem to clear themselves up without having to visit the dealer. And last but not least, the A/C just stopped working. An unusual amout of problems for an otherwise outstanding car.

Car will hold a straight line. I have to constantly move the steering wheel to keep it between the lines. I have not driven drunk in 30 years, but I could hold a straight line in my old Ford drunk than I can the E 320 sober. I am VERY disappointed.
