Overview & Reviews
A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.
Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

E430 rules - 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Tommy - March 27 - 2:33 amThe E430 is my third Mercedes Benz. Ie had the C280, E320, E320 4matic and now the E430. I miss my awd but I can honestly say this model has made me the most satisfied to date. The power is awesome and drivers give you respect when you come rolling thru. Its truly the ultimate in luxury. Once you drive one theres no turning back.

Only the outside rear view mirror.... - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By AdeP - March 23 - 2:00 amIm finally driving my new E320 2003 Sport package. No doubt superior in handling and looks that the plain E 320. Everything looks perfect. Only minor observations. The outside rear view mirror, on the drivers side, could very well be turned more to have a better, and safer, look, at incoming traffic when waiting to get into an expressway from a 45 degree intersection with a stop sign. Also the gas lid could be as solid as in previous models. Also the screen is too small. Time for corrections. Warning! MB dealers are slowly looking more and more like American automobile dealers. Watch out!

Mind of its own? - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Mark4091 - March 21 - 10:00 amWeve only had our 320E for 5 months, (2400mi) and do not like the way the transmission downshifts at low speeds. Its as though someones putting on the breaks. Its a really odd feeling. Also, there is a hesitation starting off in forward or reverse. You have to make sure the "coast is clear" before entering traffic. The engine is louder than we anticipated. We really like the car, but these issues take the joy out of owning a Mercedes. Whats with all the break dust on the wheels? Seems like Im washing them every other day.

Proceed with Caution - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Read it - March 21 - 10:00 amOverall I love it. Style, comfort are superb, yet the reliablility of the engine & pc syst. are something to be reckoned with. It sporatically hesitates. The phone system,(which by the way was worth every penny)sometimes acts up and I need to turn the car off like rebooting a pc. Same thing happens with the malfuntion instrument panel, again rebooting seems to work. Had the auto in the shop MANY times at the beginning finally got most of the problems tweaked. Was kind of embarrassed to say,its in the shop AGAIN. Although the service dept. was awesome.

Great Car - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Touchdown Tony - March 17 - 5:10 amI bought this as an expired lease vehicle with 27500 miles. Was concerned at first as Consumer Reports stated reliability problems. After 5 months and 6000 miles, I can say without reservation that I love this car. To put this comment in perspective, my last car was a 528i BMW that was always in the shop. While the BMW was nice, the Mercedes is much more refined. Feel like a grown-up driving this car versus a 50 year-old in a midlife crisis when driving the BMW. No problems what-so-ever. Fantastic mileage. Beautifully designed. However, a few quirks as loud cold starts till lifters get lubricated. Also, the Germans likely show their contempt for Americans by poor design of the cupholders.

The Right Decison Afterall - 2008 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By Eric Dise - March 12 - 7:00 amI tinkered around with moving to a car from a SUV for several years. I began looking at Infinitis, Lexuss, BMWs, and even Porsches. The main draw of the E350 was the 4Matic feature. I am a work-aholic and dont like to miss work due to weather. After I found one at a local dealer, I took it out for a spin. Oh my, was it impressive. I loved the looks. I loved the power. I loved the comfort and fit. It was smooth and powerful. The seats are very supportive. The tranny is smooth and agile and the ride is perfection! After only months of ownership I am convinced I made a great choice. I havent had it serviced yet which makes me a bit nervous. However, I expect a great experience!

DISAPPOINTED E320 OWNER - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By DISAPPOINTED OWNER - March 11 - 7:40 pmI purchased my E320 in 8/03 and drove about 15000 mi. My selection was based on appearance, test drive, competitors and MB reputation. So far I was in for 5 service visits for alarm short, stuck gas cap, battery short and at least 4 times for the transmission. All of the problems were addressed except for the transmission. In low speeds the car bucks and the transmission hangs up between gears. According to the dealer who was generally helpful, MB headquarters do not recognize a transmission problem as it is not a safety issue. Basically they do not know how to fix it. I guess that in Germany where they drive a stick, they do not care about US cars. My first auto, a 63 Tempest with 2 speed transaxle, had a smoother transmission.

Y2k in 2003 - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By h8mymbz - March 7 - 10:00 amGreat car. Terrible computer system. Ive had 3 failures of the SRS in less than a year. Each repair taking an average of 9 days. Twice the entire system needed replacment, once they couldnt figure the problem. Factory denys that the SRS is an important safety feature and thereby denied my repurchase request. Beware of this car and of MBUSA...
