A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades.   The CDI has become r fave car vs 300 hp CLK V8 coupe and ML SUV Roomy, comfortable almost 2 ton panzer should be safer in collision as mass & room inside to decelerate vitals before contacting int. surfaces. Get heated seats - great for sore back & xenons really lite your way. Trip computer reads 32.0 mpg 4 the last 16457 miles! I never reset it, but they do reset at the various required MB services (battery disconnected?) Torque is incredible, this is a 5 sp auto with inline 6 turbo, a bit of lag, but u get used to it. If you are looking for a diesel for your own homemade biofuel, get inline 6 as unlike the new V6 diesel (2007 and up) the MB mech says inline can run on it with mods. Has been very reliable

  Nothing but problems since day 2 of ownership. The first 30 days car was in shop for repairs 33% of the time.

  I had an 03 and it had many problems. I decided to get the 04 so I could get gps and this car is solid. Everything works well, and the car has a good amount of power.

  Best car Ive owned. Reliable, great looking, good handling. Could be a little better in performance area. Like the ride and comfort features. Really havent had any trouble with this car since I bought it. Would definately buy another one, this time the V8 model (E500)

  Benz in Trouble - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

  The E class, although elegant, beautifull and world class, has been very disappointing. Reliability, simply stinks! Performance is unpredictible and truck like at times. This is the E5004matic, with the adjustable/adaptive suspension that is at the sport II mode is worse than my replaced Acura MDX 2004. Comfort is subjective, however, the level of noise inside the car is a Ford F150 on a train crossing. The Hydro nonsense brakes are the worst Ive had on a car, unpredictible, you simply do not have a clue everytime you want to stop how much pressure you should be applying. The car sticker is 70grand+. That is the problem?! for that much cash EVERY car in its class is a better one?

  Not buying MB again any time soon - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

  We have 2000 E430 and have about 60,000 miles on it. So far, we had to spend over $9,000 on repairs ranging from A/C to differential leaks! It is a well designed and good looking car but the MBs quality is sub-par. Unless MB improves the quality, we wont be touching another MB for a long long time.

  BMW convert - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

  After 31 years of driving BMWs of one type or another, the iDrive and the exterior design forced me to look at this car. Fast, Fast, Fast. I dont know what in the world could ever replace it for me. An improvement would be a manual 6 speed. Its the first auto tranny I have ever owned. If they could ever get that BMW feel, no one would buy a Bimmer. I will look at the M6 when it comes out, but it going to take a lot to pry my white knuckled hands from this steering wheel. An all grown up luxury hot rod.

  First Benz - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

  After renting a 2002 E (2.7 turbo diesel), driving it to the MB factory and seeing the new E, I decided to buy one upon return to the US. This car is smooth, adequately powerful, elegantly engineered, and well-built. I also have a Lexus and a Porsche--the quality of the MB compares very favorably with them. The MB feels safer than any other car Ive driven.
