Model Overview:

A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.

Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

I cant say enough about this vehicle. We are the original owners. It is a fuel efficient, luxury work horse that still looks and runs like the day we drove it off the lot. Drawbacks are that its a little noisy (but thats a trade off for the 550+ radius you can drive w/out refueling). You may find the air conditioning is not as efficient as gas models, and perhaps a little sluggish (pulling out into traffic)compared to a gas vehicle. If you can find one in nice shape, you will find that its attributes far outweigh these drawbacks.

  • Great car - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Lease was up on ML500 and I wanted something with space and fuel economy. With fold down rear seat and large trunk this was the car. I have averaged right at 30mpg and it drives great. Very quiet. Much quieter than my wifes 2005 Audi A8.

  • Software has bugs - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Car is great, but engine makes noise (malfuntion, they order the parts already), error msg come on seveal times because the software bugs. Looks great, drive great, keyless-go is a great feature and a must. Sport package has stiffness adjustment is also a very good feature for a sports car fan.

  • High quality - 2000 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Im still amazed and pleased by the quality and design of this car. It is problem free, even after 6 years, and the engine is as smooth, powerful. and reliable as ever. And its as safe as cars can get. The interior is pure luxury with some of the highest quality materials and the exterior design is beautiful yet understated. Mercedes never "over-designs" like many of the luxury Japanese manufacturers so the styling ages very well. It is expensive to maintain, however. The dealerships are always anxious to squeeze as much out of you as they can. But you get what you pay for and, for me, its worth every penny. The oldest car manufacturer on the planet knows how to build cars very well.

  • I Expected More From Benz - 1997 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Bought this 97 E320 used in early 2002. I now have 180,000 miles on it. Engine remains reliable, but thats about it. My entire instrument panel is not functioning (dealer replaced ignition switch, which did nothing!!). AC died 2 years ago (dealer replaced dash heating unit, which did nothing!!) Car is rusting badly.

  • my first benz - 2007 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I bought this car with some mileage but still under warranty. So far I have enjoyed it quite a lot. I previously drove Mazda RX8, which was like a gokart, but grew out of it and bought a used MB. I get around 23MPG mixed with 60-70% highway, which is an improvement over my RX8. The car is great, although handling is not as sharp as I am used to, much more on a luxury side, but still chassis is tuned nicely and wants to deliver. I wish ESP could be completely turned off, but I did manage to spin it. Acceleration is more than enough and transmission works very smoothly. Sound system is phenomenal. Love the car and cant get enough driving it. It should have a bluetooth. BT cradle is available.

  • Almost Perfect - 2008 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Leased this car after leasing an 05 E500 4matic. Like this car almost as much as predecessor. The 350 is missing a few features of the E500. Opted not to get the E550, but why does the E350 not come with the passenger rear view mirror tilt when in reverse, and also the trunk lock button? Also, they stripped the digital hvac function down to the old dials. Finally, the iPod system is disappointing. Why in the year 2008 it doesnt route through the COMAND like the satellite radio, navigation and regular radio is beyond me. Its way too clunky right now. Hopefully, they will address this in future models just to catch up with Ford and Nissan electronics.

  • I would drive this into the afterlife if I could - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Go for the mechanical beauty of the naturally balanced Inline 6 with the iron block. At 18:1 compression it will outlast subsequent aluminum versions. Use Power Source Diesel Kleen once in a while and keep the injectors clean and lubricated. I have had my 2006 CDI for 145,000 miles and would not part with it EVER. I have driven 1,300 miles in one sitting (several times) and felt great afterwards. MPG is best with the right tires. I had Michelins and could easily get 40 mpg. Switched to other brands and it was a little harder to get that level of MPG. The car is VERY solid and well built. Get clear impact film for the driving lights to protect them from rocks. The rear seat is a little awkward to get out of. The cloth door jambs have worn a bit on the drivers side. Great stability. I upgraded the headlight bulbs to Phillips brightest and it was a great improvement. Suggestion for MBZ, let us adjust the high and low beams individually not as one set. Honestly I would put this against any other car for comfort, performance, efficiency and longevity.

  • Purrfect!!! - 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

  • Near perfection - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Having this much torque & horsepower makes it almost too easy to drive. Unbelievable acceleration --- from standing start or passing at speed --- just punch it and hold on. Traded a 2003 SL500 to get AMG engine, 5 passenger seating and a really nice trunk. I preferred the SL500 suspension and quicker steering but the E55 engine & transmission make this a preferable choice. This is a stealthy car. Not too many realize what a beast it is. It lives up to the advertising. Not one problem to report at 12,000+ miles. There was one recall for brakes and one fix for suspension --- car pulled to the right. An article in Star magazine pointed out this problem which was fixed under warranty.
