Model Overview:

A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.

Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

the car is beatiful inside and out, however being at the dealership over 10 times in the last year has soured my affection for m-bs in general. the dealership/ service department is nice enough, but thats not why i purchase my car. too many problems for a car that cost over 62,000. previous car was a bmw 330ci, in the three period i took the car in 3 times. too much money for such low quality workmanship.

The car is a joy to drive with great performance but has proven to be a little touchy with some smaller issues. We have had problems with seat belt sensors going off even when the belt is fastened. The check oil level light comes on (twice in spite of service) when the oil is fine. The air conditioning is very noisy and the dealer says that is the way it is. Engine performance and fuel economy is terrrific. At times the transmission does not shift smoothly.

  • a lifesaver - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Bought this brand new. Within 6 mo. Had the steering rack replaced and several other minor problems. Radio is possessed and theyve never been able to fix it. Car has only 48,000 miles after 6 years and a number of expensive nuisance repairs have had to be made. Shouldnt happen for the price and marque. Its a beautiful car: rides and drives wonderfully. Has also been a lifesaver for me......... Was taken out by a western star dump truck on the highway and only needed two doors replaced. Shes a keeper ..... For now.

A VERY SMOOTH, LUXURIOUS, PRODUCT. SOMEWHAT UNDERPOWERED, ESPECIALY WITH 4 PASSENGERS. LOTS OF NICE FEATURES, GREAT BRAKES, SEATS & INTERIOR. SMALL ITEMS ARE MISSING, LIKE DOOR AJAR INICATOR, TRUNK AJAR. SOFTWARE FOR RADIO CONTROLS IS VERY POORLY DESIGNED.

  • Disappointed - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Love the look and drive of my E320 sports package. First MB however very disappointed with the quality of car. Had to bring car in shop after 1st week because radio/cd went dead. Took 3 hrs to fix. Waited whole time! Glove compartment rattles, had problems with A/C turning on about 5+ times, seatbelt in drivers side lockes up sometimes when push seat memory button to re- adjust seat. Alignment already bad with only 4300 miles. Not looking forward to bringing it in the shop to get all this fixed. Bought MB verses BMW b/c heard BMW had problems. What a disappointment. Had Honda Accord before this car and had noooo problems!

  • L e m o n !!!! - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Boy, did I get a lemon! I have had the car for almost 5 years now, bought it used at 3 years and have spent thousands of dollars to keep it on the road. In the last 6 months, I have only driven 3,000 kms due to not trusting its reliability and now when it needs its snowtires off, the repairs of $2,880 shocks me yet again. Every time I take it for service it costs me thousands. Will be dumping it for something reliable = perhaps a Toyota - anything has got to be better than this. Talk about mis-advertising because this baby sure does not prove German engineering. Must have been a Monday or Friday car or when MB was associated with Chrysler, used Chrysler parts and charged MB prices.

This is the first Mercedes Ive owned. It is a really nice car. However, if you are looking for a smoother ride, you may want to consider a Lexus. Dont get me wrong it does ride nice in terms of minimal road noise, great sound system and solid handling feel, but It is a little firm. All in all it is a really nice vehicle. Word of caution if you are not going to keep it for an extended period of time (5 years of more) then buy it CPO/Used because the depreciation on this car will shock you! Originally purchased it 18 months ago for 78k (loaded), and today it is only worth 44K!!! I know it shocked me too. 34K drop in only a year and a half! So.... But you wont be disappointed with the vehicle. It is a dream to drive. Good luck!

I reviewed this model favorably when I first purchased used in 2006. Now, it is a different story. Repairs are extremely expensive and many can only be done at a dealer. Yesterday, the car left me stranded for the second time in 2 years. Again, an excellent independent shop is not equipped to handle. Another fuel injector type of problem. I have owned BMWs, Infinity, and Jags in the past so Im used to expensive repairs. But this car has been babied and just turned 70K miles, too young for these types of problems. Buy only if still under manufacturer warranty. Otherwise, avoid all German sedans and buy an Infiniti. Sure, the style/status is not the same, but an Infinity IS dependable

  • Dont run the EClass through a carwash - 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Was so excited to finally get our E350! We saw the steel gray color and the new body design and loved it! Still looked sporty enough for us! Was totally panicking when after running it through the car wash, the blower went out. And then the blower went out again. Was told by a dealership, not the dealership where we purchased the vehicle, that you need to shut off the heat and air conditioner when running the EClass through a car wash. This is ridiculous and Ive never heard of such nonsense. Weve owned several cars of many different makes and models and have never had a blower go out while running it through a car wash.

  • What an amazing car!!!!! - 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

I just bought a 99 E430 with 68,000 miles on it. I am stunned by the performance of this vehicle. The transmission is silky, and the higher speed the more it seems to settle in. The thing Ive enjoyed most about this vehicle is passing cars on the highway (the first time you really gun it will give you goosebumps) and the feel of taking a curve. Entrance and exit ramps and cloverleafs have never been so fun! Each time I drive it my heart races-- no kidding. The best money Ive ever spent.
