All-wheel drive comes to the Mercedes' E-Class lineup via the E320 sedan and all-new E320 wagon. Like the rest of Mercedes' model lineup, E-Class cars formerly powered by an inline-six engine now receive a more fuel-efficient V6 unit that is also supposed to improve the cars' low-end response. The 1998 E-Class cars receive the benefit of BabySmart airbags which are able to detect the presence of a Mercedes' car seat in the front passenger seat and disable the front passenger airbag. BrakeAssist is also a new feature, which aids drivers' stopping distance in a panic-stop situation.

Mercedes Money Pit - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By or_cagirl - October 27 - 3:21 pmI bought this wagon in Portland from a European used car dealership a few years ago. It only had 105 thousand miles, interior and exterior in great condition. My previous car was a 91 Volvo wagon and lasted 20 years but with teens being over 62, the Mercedes wagon has more leg room than the Volvos. Car ran well for the first year, then the mechanical problems started one after another. The cost for just an oil change is minimum $200.00. I paid $6000.00 for the car in 2010. Since then I have put over $10.000 into it in repairs. I spent less on my Volvo in the 20 years I owned it. I love the room of the E320 but the cost has been a nightmare. Caution before you buy!!!!

last mistake - 1998 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
By lee1849 - July 14 - 10:00 amUnbeleivable that this car can have something go wrong every six months like clock work. I drove my Lexus for over 125000 miles with one repair (air) In 84000 miles I have had to replace both rear window motors, engine sensors twice, air fan unit,and a oil seal--a friend told me he carries oil in his trunk. I wont make this mistake again.
