This Year's Model Updates:

The E-Class sedan is completely redesigned this year. A more elegant body, along with more power for the V8 model and more luxury (including four-zone climate control and an optional massaging driver seat), bring the latest midsize Benz up to date. Last year's E-Class station wagon, however, carries over into 2003 virtually unchanged.

Pros:
  • Legendary solidity, effortless performance, state-of-the-art safety features.
Cons:
  • Firm ride for a luxury sedan, touchy brakes.

  • Will Never Buy MB Again! MB=German Lemon - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

First and last MB I will ever buy! Since I bought the car, I noticed that the car pulls hard to the right. Its like MB built the car crooked. Whats even worse is that MB tried to make me pay for alignment!Service has been poor and 2nd rate compared to Infiniti & Lexus. Even after alignment, car still pulls to right. CD player failed 3 times, battery was replaced, left speaker fell off, gas mileage not as great as advertised, climate control failed. Car is too heavy for the engine especially when accelerating from a stop & transmission jerks when shifting from 1st to 2nd at slow traffic speeds. Amazing how a $60g engine is less refined than a $20g Honda.

  • No BMW - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I own a E500 and it is not worth 60,000 dollars. The inside is cheap looking the braking it elctronic, the engine sounds like a civic and its handling is not the best. It is a nice looking car but I would not reccommend it. I have driven the 2003 540i 6-speed and man is that a nice car, its simple, fast, fun and with the new body work its still up there with the E in looks.

  • Danger New Brakes - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

MB has brake problems and cannot stop but does not want to admit for fear of recall and bad press. Settling claims for bad brakes. Great engine, poor suspension as the air goes out and the car literally rests on tires. Mercedes acting like General Motors in letting first year models be the quality mules. Buy an S without these bad brakes. It is cheaper for them but is your life worth it?

  • Dissapointed - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

This $50K car has spent too much time at the dealership for minor repairs. I feel high tech has gone too far with this vehicle. For example, rain sensor windshield wipers, automatic seat adjustment, these two things have never worked and dealer has not been able to fix. Oil level too high, this keeps appearing as a malfunction on computer screen. Gas cap has to be frequently repaired. Winshield wipers make awful scraping noise even when wet, dealer also unable to fix. Very dissapointing auto

  • Chryslerization of Mercedes-Benz - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Year 2003. Death of a classic brand. The tradgedy finally happened. The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class has gone to cheap, gimmicky Americanized, low-class trash. From the fake chrome plastic knobs that clutter the entire dashboard and console, to the Chrysler "star" patterned wheels. Ever since the merger, we have sat and worried and wondered when the famous, world class brand would begin to show the signs of being diluted and infected. The wait is over. My next car will come from BMW and I pray to the car-maker gods to please allow this one remaining quality brand to remain independent and uninfected.

  • very disappointed - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Because if my work, I put alot of miles on a car and need reliability as well as comfort. The reliability factor is certainly present, however, the cars interior is very uncomfortable for anyone over 57". I feel like Im in a tuna can. The seats are uncomfortable and the interior space is small and not well designed. I really dislike driving this car and hope to get rid of it as soon as possible. One other glaring mistake made by MB is the fact the the interior colors are so light its impossible to maintain particularly the flooring area. RIDICULOUS!

  • Worst time for Mercedes? - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

I regret to say that this was the worst Mercedes I have ever owned. It seemed that something went wrong with it every other week. The digital read-outs on main display failed causing to lose the ability to use particular options, HVAC system completely failed and needed total replacement, window regulator failures, side mirror motor failures, seat heater failures, seat adjustment motor failure, trunk release failure, fluid leaks, engine mounts needed replacement (@ 60K miles!), and many more malfunctions. Despite this being Mercedes, nobody should be experiencing this many problems with a car costing this much. It is by far the worst car I have ever owned.
