Overview & Reviews
Mazda's first sport-utility vehicle since the departure of the Navajo half a decade ago, the Tribute combines car-like ride and handling with the ability to go in the snow and tote up to five passengers and a healthy amount of their luggage. With the most powerful V6 in its class, in addition to handsome looks and a spacious cabin, the Tribute should find huge success despite an increasingly crowded small-SUV marketplace.
- Stout V6 power, rugged good looks, roomy cabin, attractive pricing.
- Weak standard four-cylinder engine, no low-range transfer case.

2001 Mazda Tribute Rock On!! - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By Flameworker - April 30 - 9:03 pmI have had this 2001 Mazda Tribute since it was new, and we have never had any problems with it. Only once when it was new, it shut off by itself on the highway, but this was soon resolved. It was a recall situation that got cleared up quickly for us. After that little incident it has always been smooth sailing with this vehicle. Great car based SUV! This vehicle is powerful, fun to drive, and very very very reliable.

3 years and Going - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By Kentucky Driver - March 21 - 10:00 amMy wife loves to drive it because of its get up and go. Drives as smooth and comfortable as a sports car. After 30,000 miles I took it in to replace pads. I was surprised when the rotors were worn down to nothing. Cost me $400. I was always curious why this car generated so much brake dust. At 45,000 miles, the car just stalled. I read other Tribute drivers experienced this. For the most part, we love this SUV...now if we can just get rid of that incessant rattle in the hatch.

Nice to drive, yet very unsafe - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By AimeeW - February 7 - 10:00 amI have the DX 2WD/ 4cyl standard Tribute and it has been a reliable car in general but it is absolutely horrible in the rain/snow. It handles extremely poor in these conditions. When it rains, I hydroplane often and it skids on any road that is slightly slick while braking. I am looking to trade this vehicle in because of this but now I see that it has depreciated terribly as well.

Fun to drive (with lots of repairs) - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By gam4 - November 18 - 4:26 pmEverything that I have read that can go wrong with this particular model, has gone wrong with mine. EGR valve, intake manifold gaskets tie-rods, cad. converter, door ashtray falls out, doors stick, etc...Just put a grand into it at 153K. It runs great now, and I do still love to drive it, but with gas prices going up, and the 15MPG it actually gets, I am looking for something more economical!

Still like the Tribute - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By kpax - July 8 - 10:00 amI bought my Tribute in Sept. 2000.I had to have the transmission replaced less than a year later. It was under warranty but that didnt make me feel very good about the SUV. I havent had any other problems since. The moon roof is starting to stick a little but I do love the car, I now have 55,000 miles on it.

Good Choice - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By DBK - May 9 - 2:00 amWe purchased this new based upon its styling and the good reviews we had read. The vehicle has performed extremely well in heavy snow, which was our main concern. Our V6 has plenty of get up and go when passing on the highway. We had problems with our moon roof twice, otherwise weve not had anything mechanically wrong. I have also been impressed with its braking capability. I recommend over the other vehicles in its class due to its overall power.

No Complaints - 2001 Mazda Tribute
By M J Boyer - December 17 - 2:00 amThis is my spouses vehicle...and she truly enjoys owning and driving it. The sun-roof feature allows great outdoors enjoyment, and the tightness and overall appearance both inside and out have brought her many favorable comments from co-workers and friends. Were older individuals, and I would certainly recommend to anyone past 50 to consider this vehicle...the 200HP performance is terrific.
