This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

In the first week it had to be towed in due to a computer glitch. In the second week the gas gauge failed. The third week brought 3 pieces of trim falling off. The 4 th week brought an air conditioner failure. After owning 4 Grand Cherokees, the Liberty is a real disappointment. The drivers seat is too high to see out the front window if you are six feet tall. In the first month of ownership and 3300 miles of driving, I have come to dislike my new car. I will just look forward to a year down the road and a trade.

  • Windows Suck - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought a used one with 10,000 miles. I immediatley started having trouble with the windows. I paid a $100 deductable six times to have this problem fixed, and it has never been fully resolved. My back drivers side window is now being held up this a suction cup purchased at harbor freight for 5.99. The 5.99 suction cup has served me much better then anyone at Jeff Wyler, Ft. Thomas. I have yet to be reimbursed from Chrysler for my previous expenses and Jeff Wyler wants to charge me $80 to look at the problem to see if it will be covered by the extended warranty now offered due to the problem. Every window part should be included for this car due to the inconvenience. Dont buy the 2006!

  • Buyer Beware - 2006 Jeep Liberty

All I can say is what a piece of junk. Bought new, but back rear spring broke at 3k miles, repalce egk valve at 10k miles, loud rattle in back end that dealership never could figure out, replaced rear brakes at 14k miles, one rotor replaced at 18k miles, heater smells like burnt wiring, blower fan replaced, front passenger window regulator replaced 4 times, both back Windows each replaced 2 times.updated regulator that was suppose to fix the problem didnt. Both back Windows replaced again. Dealership lied. Never could get any help from Chrysler. Traded it before warranty expired and bought a Toyota RAV which I have put over 18k miles without problem.

  • Worse Jeep Made - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I purchased my 2006 Liberty new. The seats stain easily and do not come clean. I have 26,000 miles on mine and the steering is starting to get some play, and it isnt driven off-road. Had to have window regulators replaced 10 times, every window has fallen down twice and now I am on 3 times for a couple. In fact I have one down now. I have always been a Jeep guy, but they lost my business. As soon as it is out of warranty I am getting rid of it. Also, my rear interior light comes on every now and then for no reason. Chrysler should be ashamed of their vehicles.

  • Window Regulator - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

So, I took my 2006 Jeep Liberty to the dealer on 09/09/2010 because the front drivers side window regulator is shot. Cost me $595 to repair a problem that Jeep knows about. In fact, I was told they redesigned the regulator, and they put the newly- designed regulator in my Jeep. Why do I have to pay for something that Jeep knows was improperly designed? Jeep will not recall the vehicles because the regulator is not a "safety issue". Im now waiting to hear from Jeeps customer service as to whether Im going to get reimbursed. This is very poor customer relations at the least. Jeep should be replacing these regulators for free.

After on 2 weeks I knew I bought this vehicle in haste. The seats sit really high and are not very comfortable. The brake and gas pedals are dangerously close. The steering is very touchy and difficult to control. The price really isnt that great when you really take a look at what you get. My Jeep has been for sale for 2 months with no bites.

  • They are all lemons - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Replaced 3 regulators under warranty, and 1 after warranty. Because they changed the design (yet, they didnt improve it), it requires the window to be replaced too. Total bill is about $800 per incident, and its a repair that has to be repeated every once in a while for each window. Im up to my 6th regulator being broken, 3 under warranty, 1 at my cost, and 2 that I decided not to fix (a stick was placed inside the door to keep the window from falling). Ive only got 4 years and 65000 miles on it. Interior is very plain. Dont expect storage space. The manufacturers manual doesnt even fit in the very small glove box. I cant believed I got taken that way.

  • Dont buy a Liberty ! - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Bought used at 13k miles. Both rear windows have failed - window just falls into door when driving along. Its a massive safety issue. Dont buy this car if you have children or animals. Its just not safe. Chrysler want to wait for somebody to die before they think about doing something. Currently they charge $450+ to fix - even though the fix will just fail again. Its just a matter of time. If Chrysler had any small piece of care for their customers they would recall this design issue. But instead they are looking at it as a revenue stream. Im never buying another Chrysler.

  • Can you say lemon? - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I purchased this Jeep brand new 9/2006. In January of 2007 is was in the shop for a MAJOR motor problem that was a factory problem. I was without this jeep for a month and it has NEVER been the same. Nobody stands behind their vehicles anymore. I have an electrical problem in this vehicle and no one seems to know what it is. The fuel economy is horrible! The only good thing about it is its 4 wheel drive. This Jeep has been in the shop for so many things. You name it, its been in the shop for it.
