This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • Love everything about this car, except the mileage! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Ive been a Jeep owner for many years. After my 3rd Cherokee started showing signs of old age, I traded it in for a pre-owned 2006 Liberty Limited. When the Libertys first came out, I didnt like the design, but it has grown on me. (I still compare the Liberty to the Cherokee, as youll see). Everything seems intended specifically for convenience and space efficiency, well done Jeep! I also test-drove the new 2008 body style which I didnt feel was built as solidly as the original Liberty body style-- somehow felt cheaper and flimsy, like a bad rental car.

The Jeep is powerful, can turn around on a dime and gets good diesel mileage. I love it. I would buy it again. It needs more cup holders in the drivers area in front of the vehicle thats all.

  • Built like a Wrangler but luxury comfort - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Never thought I would enjoy the Liberty compared to my 2005 Wrangler. I have all the comfort and luxury with the integrity and durability of a Wrangler. My Liberty is so solidly built and quiet. The stability and traction control is so amazing in wet weather.

I purchased my 06 Liberty last July and traded in my Chrysler Pacifica (more luxurious but the mileage was disgusting!!). Hubby bought a 98 Cherokee used 3 years ago...has 160,000+ miles on it and still going strong! I love that Jeep reliability. Love the traction control and the 6-speed tranny. Improved my gas mileage by using a tank of high test once a month. Went from 13mpg to 17mpg in the city! Ill never own anything else!

  • Will Never Buy Jeep Again - 2006 Jeep Liberty

We have a 2006 Liberty and have had nothing but problems with the windows. First the rear driver side window just slid down one day about 6 months into the lease and never came back up again - we had never even lowered the window once since we got the car. Today, about 18 months into the lease, the drivers window did the same thing. I asked the service manager to inspect the other 2 windows so I dont have to come back 2 more times for the same problem and he said no - they have to break first. Jeep knows about the problem and refuses to issue recall - beware!!!

  • Fun, secure ride - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Ive only owned it one week. For the last two years Ive been looking at the Jeep Liberty. Im not quite used to being up so high (previous car was a Grand Prix). Its fun to drive and I feel very secure. Having horses, its very practical for me. I think Ive made the right choice.

So far so good; the window controls seem to be a universal complaint. It would be nice if all the little extras were included: dead pedal, fog lights, storage, etc. Foreign makers seem to include these as a matter of course. The diesel mileage is OK (not spectacular) at 2000 miles. The inclusion of ABS, steering control, etc. is great. Diesel is a little noisy (not like past diesels); so far no smoke or smell. One recall for steering.

  • Windows Regulators - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I purchased this vehicle for my mother June of 2006. Since having purchased this vehicle my husband has replaced the window regulators on 3 of the 4 windows 3 times already. Recently the driver side window regulator went out, and he went to the dealership to purchase another one and was told that he would not only have to purchase the regulator but a new window due to a new design that Chrysler came up to prevent this from happening. It went from being $75.00 to now $300.00 to replace this part. This is ridiculous, you either buy groceries or fix the window. And the gas mileage isnt great either for a 3.7 Liter small vehicle. Not to mention the noise that it makes when driving on the HWY.

Rides smooth, lots of space, nice interior design, handles well off road.

  • whats it gonna take.... - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Other than the window regulator going out on both Windows and the silly cloth staining seats I really dont have any problems with it.... But Im wondering whats it gonna take for this window regulator issue to be put on a recall list... The latest happened on my sons side of the car scaring him and almost injuring him... And me nearly wrecking from the noise it made.... Who knows where I can file a report about it? thanks
