This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • SEATS stain from WATER - 2006 Jeep Liberty

My 2007 Liberty seats look filthy from stains brought on by water! Embarrassing to have passengers to see the seats! JEEP needs to recall these seats and do something about the ridiculous(ness) of the easily stained cloth that repels nothing!!!

  • Chrysler worst quality interior parts - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I bought a Jeep Liberty 2006 brand new, I have replaced the windows regulators about 6 times for the rear windows, spending about $200.00 each time, and still Chrysler do not have a recall for the cheapest windows regulators ever made out of plastic, then the gear shifter light went off and I thought I could fix it replacing a fuse. The dealer told me they didnt have a fix for that so they have to replace the whole shifter. WHAT? I just leave it like that and then the interiors handlers in each door came off when I tried to close the door that after several months of use. It runs great and I havent have any major problems with the engine but Chrysler used the cheapest materials ever.

  • I Love My Liberty - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought my pre-owned Liberty, never having owned one before. I am so happy I made the purchase. It hasnt disappointed. I live in a heavy snow area of the country and this vehicle handles like a champion. It especially rolls in 4x4. I put too many miles on it annually, but will drive it until it falls apart. It could get better fuel economy for a small SUV. I was concerned about buying it because of what I had heard about Grand Cherokees and Durangos, but I am very satisfied so far. Great vehicle.

  • Liberty CRD - 2006 Jeep Liberty

My CRD is a blast to drive and gets good mileage. Just took it in for the first oil change, that was a bit of a shock ($90). The A/C works great. My wife claims to hate the diesel clacking under the hood, but I cant keep her out of it. Fuel economy is good, between 24 and 26 MPG with 4000 miles on it. It is maneuverable and easy to park. Havent towed anything yet but I am sure I will have no problem when I do. It has lots of torque.

  • Nice car...but with some problems - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Ive had my 06 Jeep Liberty for almost 3 years and I do love the car. But there are some major flaws. The back left window fell one day (I didnt even try to roll it down, it just fell). Dealership wanted like $460 to fix because my warranty was gone. Seats stain so bad, even with just plain water. It is smaller on the inside than I ever expected. I have a 2 year old and have his car seat in the middle (because it is safer to put the carseat in the middle in all cars) and it is a tight squeeze to get another average size adult in the back seat. Ive had no major complaints about the car. It has held up nicely. I would buy another Jeep in the future.

  • Liberty Sport CRD 4x4 - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Had about 4 1/2 months and so far so good. One road trip I did find the odometer to be off, by a whopping 18%. Thats bad, but the value will last longer I guess. Taking that into account with a Minnesota winter fuel, Im getting approx 20 mpg winter and so far 28.2mpg summer with a 30 mile commute each way and most of that is freeway driving. Passed 500 miles on the last tank! Much better engine setup than my previous Jetta TDI, and so far no electrical problems either (just try looking for a Jetta without a tail light burned out).

  • Love my Jeep, hate my windows - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I love my little Liberty. Its fun to drive, very comfortable, and is handles very nicely. That said, I hate that both rear window regulators have gone out. I currently am holding them up with tape as money has been a little tight. They stopped working within 2 months of each other. They could at least make it where they get stuck closed. I worry someone is going to either rob my Jeep or take it outright when I park it somewhere.

  • unfinished gem - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

if only this suv wasnt thrown out on the assembly line...has great potential but seems unfinished. it has a lot of power but almost too much. i feel like Im going to tip over every time I turn. The interior isnt much to look at and the radio could be better. It has a lot of power but I wasnt impressed. It stinks on bumps but is great in the snow with the 4 wheel drive on. I would rather have the Escape which feels safer and is cheaper. The jeep is "trail rated" and yet when you look at websites most recommend not to use the Liberty when off roading. Also when I was driving it a little rough it started shaking and the engine light went on.

  • Not Jeep Quality - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Thompson Jeep/Chrysler does fantastic work, however it seems Jeep quality continues to become worse and worse. This is the second Jeep Ive purchased. The first was a 2005 Wrangler. I couldnt take all the problems and issues. Now my Liberty is causing me time from work. Every other week it something else going wrong. Its still under warranty and thank goodness I purchased the extended warranty. Page after page I keep reading about more and more Jeep Liberty problems, especially window regulator issues.

  • bad transfer case -- disappointment - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

The comfort of this car far surpasses any other SUV I have driven. But it was a major disappointment to find that I had purchased a vehicle that had a bad transfer case from the git-go. You dont expect to be inconvenienced at 3100 miles. And to put up with the noise, vibration and the stress of wondering what else is going to happen later down the road, because Chryslers service reps seem to think that itÂ’s ok to drive the vehicle until they can get around to replacing the transfer case. My concern is will the transmission fail next? Will the driveline maintain its integrity? I did not expect this from a Jeep. But then again it is a Chrysler product now, isnt it!
