This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • Love it, hate filling it - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I looked at lots of small/midsize SUVs before deciding on the Liberty. I really love driving in it!!

I love my liberty, but Im not so sure I love it. It steers well, easy to maneuver, love the height, but I have to say if I had been aware of the problems I could have fallen in love with another vehicle. The paint job sucks, I have what should be just a small ding (Im guessing from a rock) above the window on the door and the thing goes all the way to the metal! Also, as with most of you, the window thing is driving me crazy! The driver window has gone out 4 times, the rear Windows both replaced, and today the passenger window broke. It also runs really loud & the seats stain way to easily. Something is definitely wrong.

  • I like my liberty just fine - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I have had my jeep liberty for 16 months and have 25k miles. Have had none of the window issues others have reported. Only reasonably comfortable, but it is a jeep after all. Surprisingly good off road, have been on "4X4 only" trails in real "muck and mud". Very maneuverable. Recently complied with recalls, one of which was to reprogram body module computer. This reboot dramatically improved first to second auto trans shift smoothness and fuel mileage. Mileage went from city 15mpg to 18 mpg (I get 24 to 25 mpg Hwy and 21 combined). It is fun to drive. My wife even enjoys driving it, which was a real surprise. She actually asks me to leave it at home for her. Overall satisfied and a Jeep it is!

Its a nice driver. Power, though not great, is more than adequate. In town, its difficult to keep the speed down less than 40. Power windows on console took a while to get used to, but it works well. Good vision all around, and I like the solidity of the side view mirrors. I also like the versatility of the vehicle. The 60-40 rear seat is a good idea. So is the pop up rear window. Saves damage. All in all, its a good car, although Id like it if it were a bit more fuel efficient.

  • A stick in the spokes, but better now - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I purchased a pre-owned Liberty 65th Anniversary Edition last month. I was deciding between the Dodge Nitro and the Liberty and am glad I chose the Jeep. I should mention that I had a major problem after the first week of ownership. The engine light came on and it turned out, I needed major engine work. Sounds dire considering I just bought the vehicle but everything was covered and the dealership fixed the misfire problems that were internal. Moving on I must say I love driving this vehicle. Its a delight to hop in and just shoot around town or taking it off-road which is the real reason I purchased the vehicle after owning a Mazda Millenia for the last 4 years.

  • Air conditioning - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I own a 2006 Liberty which was the first new vehicle that I have purchased.I have many of the complaints some of the other owners have such as, the windows falling. Three times for me too. The seats staining are unbelievable too. My most recent complaint is the air conditioning. I was just told by my dealer that my compressor is shot. I have found no complaints or recalls related to 2006 Jeep air conditioning issues. This will be costly as my vehicle is also out of warranty like many other consumers who are faced with the same reality. What a disappointment Chrysler has been for me with this one. I plan on issuing a complaint. Maybe they will surprise me.

  • STILL GREAT - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I have had this car for a little while now, and I have to say I still am in love with it!.... The design, how high up I am is amazing. This is my first SUV and I couldnt be happier with my choice. The 4x4 is great, I love selec tracs, hate when they are all time 4x4. The stearing handles on a dime and so far my windows have not given me and issue but I did get extended warrenty just incase. For how little it looks from the outside the interior gives the driver and all the passengers plenty of leg room. All around I do love this car, the only thing I wish it had was a sunroof.

  • Mines a GAS HOG! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I absolutely love my Liberty -- I have had the best winter driving (in New England) of my LIFE this year! The Jeep is powerful and confident on snowy and slippery roads -- I rarely needed 4WD. However, I am only a townie driver, and I am averaging only 11-12 MPG. I am not kidding -- I tracked it. I am going to contact dealership to see if something is wrong.

  • Thirsty jeep - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I am 5 tall with a boyfriend of 66", we both fit quite well and comfortably to drive the jeep. I have had 2 recalls since I purchased ( no big deal). It drives great, looks good, the interior is designed very well. The 1/3 and 2/3 split back seats fold down easily. Leather seats with heater great. However, my mileage is 13 - 15.7 (15 on highway) per gal. I drive mostly highway and conservatively, no sudden stops or starts. I can see the gas gauge go down as I drive. The overhead says avg mileage stays at 14 - 14.8 MPG, manual calculations show it correct

  • Love it so far - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Granted that I only got it several days ago, I so far love the jeep. I have not had any issue with the windows...yet but all these reviews scare me haha... I went from a 2 door sunfire and loved it but wanted one of these jeeps since they came out! the gas mileage is what i expected, the 4x4 is a bear in the snow. the four doors is what i missed the most. so far i enjoy the jeep and hope it keeps up.
