This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • I love my Jeep!! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

This is my first jeep, my brother had a Wrangler so that was my first experience! I love how it looks like a Jeep but feels comfortable! I had been driving a Kia Rio so the gas mileage on the Jeep is hard to get used to, but love being up high, I can see the road! I feel much safer and am very pleased that the Jeep handles so well; coming from a small vehicle I was kind of afraid it would be hard to park, etc. I just have to quit on the joyriding a bit with gas so high, but the vehicle is a joy for me to drive~tons of fun!!!

An everyday experience. This Jeep is the best to get in and around traffic. Handled the recent ice storm we had in Maryland. Never needed to use the 4-wheel drive. The greatest heater ever.

  • Great Car - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I have read these reviews and I have been very lucky with my Liberty. I drive both city and highway. I get 20 miles per gallon when I drive smart. No jack rabbit starts. As for the brakes I have 78,000 miles on it and still have original front brakes. I have had one window break and fall down and had a friend wedge it up. (it is the back drivers side) So I cant roll it up or down. I have had this car for almost 4 years and have only put new tires on at 55K, new back brakes at 65K, and did tuneup, transmission and raditor service at 55K. This has been a great car and I would buy another in a heartbeat!

I too am shocked at all the bad reviews. I have had my Jeep Liberty since February 2006 and it has been totally great. The only 1 problem I have had is the back drivers side window fell and I had a friend lock it in place and needless to see other than it is locked in place that is the only thing I have had go wrong with this car. I have driven this vehicle over 65,000 miles and all I have done is change the oil and 1 set of tires. The brakes are original and this car is awesome. I look forward to driving this car for the next 65,000 miles...

Soon after purchase we took a drive around the Olympic Peninsula. We did a speedometer check and noticed that the speedometer was off by 3 miles per hour. It reads 3 mph higher than actual speed. We double checked it with a GPS and the GPS agrees with our findings. During the first visit for its 3,000 mile oil change I mentioned to the sales team and the service tech that this speedometer discrepancy will affect getting an accurate mileage and asked if anything could be done to adjust it. Sales said that it was adjustable, service said it wasnt that easy. It is a beautiful fun 4 X 4 to drive and my wife and I love it, and we will learn to live with the speedometer if necessary.

  • Nice surprise - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Great car. Wasnt interested at first since Id only seen women driving it, but Ive been very pleased and whenever there has been a little problem, Jeep takes care of its customers. Gas mileage is disappointing but thats the only thing that isnt great.

  • Love everything about this car, except the mileage! - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Ive been a Jeep owner for many years. After my 3rd Cherokee started showing signs of old age, I traded it in for a pre-owned 2006 Liberty Limited. When the Libertys first came out, I didnt like the design, but it has grown on me. (I still compare the Liberty to the Cherokee, as youll see). Everything seems intended specifically for convenience and space efficiency, well done Jeep! I also test-drove the new 2008 body style which I didnt feel was built as solidly as the original Liberty body style-- somehow felt cheaper and flimsy, like a bad rental car.

The Jeep is powerful, can turn around on a dime and gets good diesel mileage. I love it. I would buy it again. It needs more cup holders in the drivers area in front of the vehicle thats all.

  • Built like a Wrangler but luxury comfort - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Never thought I would enjoy the Liberty compared to my 2005 Wrangler. I have all the comfort and luxury with the integrity and durability of a Wrangler. My Liberty is so solidly built and quiet. The stability and traction control is so amazing in wet weather.
